An early season safety tune-up

We’ve been having a fabulous time riding and getting to know new people and the 2022 season is off to a wonderful start!  We want to make sure everyone rides safely and happily forever. Therefore, we’re going to take a moment to tune-up our safety a bit. A few tweaks and adjustments:

  • When stopping at intersections, let’s ensure that we all position ourselves off the road and don’t congregate at the intersection. In fact, we prefer to have people stop about 25-50ft before or after the intersection in order to prevent a gaggle of cyclists awkwardly occupying the space. We also make a better impression!
  • It’s really important that everyone maintain awareness of the sights and sounds around us, especially in a group setting. Therefore, we kindly ask for no headphones or external music.
  • Please make sure you have RSVPd to a ride using the Cycle Club account—it allows the Ride Leader access to emergency contact information during the posted hours of the ride.
  • Ride as far to the right as is practicable. Its easy to get yakking with friends on the ride, but if you look down and notice you are getting close to that yellow line in the centre you really need to shimmy to the right cuz you’ve gone too far. 🙂
  • If you have never taken a cycling safety workshop (or even if you have), here’s a great refresher of how we can best interact with traffic.  It’s very good!
