100k Ride to Presqu’ile and Back! Sunday Sept. 4

It’s here! The 100k ride to Presqu’ile and back. It sounds hard, but not as hard as you think. It’s mostly flat-ish and if you take your time, you can do it in as little as 4 hours or as many as 6. The trick is to pace yourself and go at an easy but sustainable pace.

If you aren’t feeling up to the whole 100k you can turn around in Colborne for a 50k ride, or at any other point in order to make the distance as long as you wish. To make it a true 100k you need to ride all the way down to the lighthouse in Presqu’ile Park.

It’s a big distance, so plan to bring a couple of snack baggies of trail mix, dried fruit, or a few granola bars for along the way. You could plan to make a stop in Colborne for drinks and snacks if necessary.

Some people will be doing their first 100k ride ever…it would be nice for them to know who else is riding so they know they won’t be alone. Please leave a comment to let others know you plan to ride and whether you are anticipating a slow, medium or fast pace.

Start time: 9am
Start location: The arena on Furnace St.
Route map:
Not required (Waterfront Trail Eastbound)

Ride leader: There will be no designated ride leader for this ride. Everyone will meet at the arena at 9 and head out together, but expect to break off into smaller groups according to pace & ability.

FYI: Three of us (Randy, Maria, and Anita) will already be in the Brighton beforehand and plan to meet up with participants at or near the park entrance around noon. The three of us will be on loaded touring bikes and riding at a slow pace, so if anyone wishes to ride back with us you can expect sloooooow and easy!

  1. Planning on riding at 2-3 level pace and taking a rest break at midway point in Presquille.

Can probably be talked into a small side trip to the Big Apple Tim Hortons for a coffee and a pastry.

Looking forward to riding with others and having a strong turn out like in past years.

  2. I hope to do some or all of this. Busy family weekend so may not have time to do 100k. But would be good practice for Bike Up!

  3. For anyone who wants to try 100km but can’t make it on Sunday, or if anyone already has 100km under their belt but would like to come support anyone doing their first, there will be a “first 100km” ride Thursday, September 15th. The official post for this ride will come later, but this is just a heads up in advance. The pace will be at whatever the first timers feel comfortable with.
