Pre-announcing our CENTURY RIDE (100km) around Rice Lake next Sunday, June 30th.. It’s a hilly one! Mark your calendars. Complete details will come later this week.

Sunday June 23: “Uphill Downhill” ride (36, 56 or 69km)

It’s gonna be a hot one tomorrow! 30°C and that’s before humidex. Bring lots of water. Three distances to choose from. Regardless of what distance you choose, it’s primarily uphill for the first half and downhill for the second half. All three routes are the same for the first part and the last part. The difference being in the middle:

36km riders turn right at 17k onto Speechly, everyone else goes left.
56km riders turn right at 26km onto Broomfield, 69km riders continue straight.

Thursday EVENING ride, June 20th: 31, or 48km

In case you can’t make the morning ride, no worries. We’re trying it out to see if an evening ride will work for the Level 3 and 4s too. Same route as the morning group, but we start at 6:30 at the Town Hall! Lights on your bikes will be required. (Note: There is no 64km option for this ride, due to daylight hours)

The difference between the Level 3 and Level 4 is that the Level 3 takes a short cut by turning south on Morrish Church Rd and heading down to the Lakeshore, while the Level 4 continues West until they turn south on Newtonville Rd to travel south to the Lakeshore.

Start time: 6:30pm
Start location: Port Hope Town Hall

We need volunteers for ride leaders. Anyone want to take that on? It’s easy stuff! If you are riding on this EVENING ride, it’s important that you comment below that you are coming so that we can plan accordingly.

Thursday MORNING ride, June 20th: 31, 48, or 64km

We’re going to have two options for riding on Thursday. Morning time for those who are available and evening for those who prefer an evening ride. Both are identical rides, just different times.

The difference between the Level 3 and Level 4 is that the Level 3 takes a short cut by turning south on Morrish Church Rd and heading down to the Lakeshore, while the Level 4 continues West until they turn south on Newtonville Rd to travel south to the Lakeshore.

If you want to add 14km to the route making it 64km, be at Canadian Tire in Cobourg and bike over to the start location at Port Hope Town Hall.

Tuesday June 18th, Ride from Port Hope at 6:30

This ride is typically a little different from the regular rides in that the speed and difficulty level varies according to the participants who show up. We’re anticipating this Tuesday night ride to be a little speedier than than some of the others. It’s going to be a great night for riding! Sunset doesn’t occur until 8:58 and the forecast looks reasonable for a change.

If you wish to leave from Canadian Tire in Cobourg, it will add another 14km in total to your ride. Also, if you’re leaving from Cdn Tire, plan to be there ready to go in the parking lot at 6:05. (Arriving at the Port Hope Town Hall for 6:30)

Start time: 6:30pm

“Still Riding to Survive” — Let’s support Sharon Ingle

Below is a request from our fellow club member, Sharon Ingle, to help support her (by making a small donation), to her Healing Cycle ride this coming Sunday. She is nothing short of an Inspiration for all of us!

SharonTo my new Northumberland cycling friends-
As many of you may know I just moved to Brighton and joined the bike club. I have been fighting advanced breast cancer for 5 years now, with every treatment and surgery you can think of. According to the Dr’s I should not be alive given the aggressiveness of the cancer. However, I “ride to survive” which so far has kept me on the upside of the road!

I had brain surgery in December as the cancer metastasized there and now I am doing a very aggressive radiation program that has never been tried before. The Dr says I have 6 months but then again he does not bike! Anyway, radiation finishes this Saturday and I have decided to participate in The Healing Cycle on Sunday to raise money for palliative care. I have participated in his ride since it’s beginning and hope by participating this year I will inspire someone else fighting this tough battle to get up and get moving doing something they love! My palliative care Dr Sauls is riding the 100kms.

I am asking for support from the Northumberland Hills cyclists by way of a small donation to help get me up and over those hills! This year I am riding 50 k due to the radiation fatigue but all participation helps! If you can help I would be very grateful. Please think of me this Sunday on the group ride and send hill energy!
Thank you

Sharon Ingle
