Level 3 (Wednesday)

I would like to leave the same comment as the L2+, in that the ride will be pleasurable but…The climb up to Northumberland Heights is a bit of a climb but the thrill of going down the Height’s Hill makes it all worth it.

Make sure your lights are working and bring water!

Tuesday August 28: Level 4 (35k)

Weather diverted us from doing this one last week, so we’ll do it this Tuesday. Time to climb some hills! That includes the Jamieson Twins. But hey, it’s late in the season, so you are strong! We have 114 minutes of daylight, so we’re going for some speed too! And, this one doesn’t include Bickle Hill so it’s all good.
Start time: 6:00
Sunset: 7:54pm
Ride Leader: Anita Macklin
Route map: 35km “Hills o Plenty” route map link on Ride with GPS
Start location: Hamilton Township Municipal Offices on Burnham St.

Thursday August 30: Level 4 (36k)

There are no crazy climbs on this route (just 245m), so you can go for some speed again! Believe it or not….4 minutes less daylight than just two days earlier!
Start time: 6:00
Sunset: 7:50pm
Ride Leader: Anita Macklin

Start location: Cobourg Memorial Arena on Furnace St.

Prince Edward Gran Fondo Ride- September 8th

Another great bike event is coming to a County near you- this time to Prince Edward County. Local organizers have created a Gran Fondo event you may consider registering for. Several bike club members have already registered, so you are sure to have some local NHCC company along with the other almost 500 riders expected at this event. There are pre and post ride activities and events scheduled , so be sure to have a good look through the website.
If you have already registered, please comment below and include the distance you have registered for as this may help other people decide to join . If you choose to register also comment below as we are likely to register a Team Name before the day of the event and will add your name to the team list.
Here’s a description as per the website :

The County Gran Fondo is a beautifully scenic ride through the bucolic, vineyard studded scenery of Prince Edward County, Ontario. Choose from 50 km, 100 and 150 km distances and enjoy unparalleled support, the camaraderie of cyclists and après-ride festivities sure to please. Starting from Isaiah Tubbs on West Lake, you will cruise through Sandbanks Provincial Park, past vineyards that have made the county famous, visit villages including Milford, Picton & Wellington, and ride quiet roads in between.

Haven’t been to the county yet? Travel & Leisure recently described Prince Edward County as one of the top places to travel to in the world in their annual list: ‘Cross Montauk, NY, with California’s Napa Valley circa 1970, and you get Prince Edward County, a tiny wine-producing region that’s becoming a haven for creative types’. Cyclists have long known that this region is a mecca for road cycling.

This route (26 km) is an old favorite of mine. We will head north on Ontario St. to Cornish Hollow where then ride west on Smylie to Williamson. From Williamson we will follow Danforth Rd to Ontario Street. I drove down Williamson today and from Bickle Hill to Dale Rd—they have finished the re-surfacing, and the road is now ride-able.
