Thursday August 15: Level 4 self-navigated

We have always done the Beagle Club route clockwise, but just to make things a little different we are going around counterclockwise this time. We have 2 hours and 16 minutes of daylight for this 42 km route, so it’s a good distance that will leave a little wiggle room in the event of the-flat-that-happens-when-you-least-expect-it.

It’s important to leave a comment letting others know you’ll ride so people can plan accordingly for these self-navigated routes. Note the start time is 6:00pm

Reminder 6pm Start L2 Westwood Tonight!

6pm!!! Start L2 Westwood Park Cobourg Tonight!

The website is now correct.

Yes, we are starting at 6 pm! for tonight’s L2 ride from Westwood. The light is dwindling and we are increasing distance so there is a scissors crisis between overall time and overall light. Bring your lights too to be extra safe!

Wednesday August 14: Levels 3 and 4 Rides

IMPORTANT: Please note the new start time of 6:00pm

Level 3 Group Ride: We are going to take a counterclockwise route around Cobourg this time, and in the latter half, while flying down Burnham St., at the 32km mark (Kennedy Rd) you can make a decision about whether or not you want to tackle Bickle Hill (it only adds a half km of distance!).  If so, turn off at Kennedy. If not, you just continue down down Burnham reconnect with the others at Dale and Theatre Rd.

Level 4: This week’s Level 4 follows the same route as Level 3 For the first 32km point then it diverts up Kennedy in order to take in Bickle Hill Rd. This is the group where you can set whatever pace you like! It’s likely that the group will stay together, but breaking into smaller units according to pace preference is certainly an option. And if it’s just too fast, you can simply slow down and wait for the Level 3 Group Ride to catch up.

Ride Leaders: Mike Collins (Level 3),  Self-navigated (Level 4)
Start time: 6:00pm
Sunset: 8:17pm
Route map (Level 3):

Elevation: 384m (L3), 431m (L4)
Start location: Westwood Parkette on Carlisle St., just east of Ewing

Level 3 Group Ride: Monday August 11

It’s going to be a fairly long route, but with a 6:00 start time we should finish it before the sun sets. Do remember to have your lights on your bikes though, the sun sets at 8:20pm, giving us 2 hours and 20 minutes to complete the ride. The elevation for this route is not insane, (not flat either, but hey….we do the best we can!), so it should be a nice easy go.

Start time: 6:00
Sunset: 8:20pm
Elevation:  357m

Saturday, September 21st: Discover L&A Ride

The Discover Lennox & Addington Ride has been going on for several years and is a fun opportunity to explore some of the Lennox and Addington area. A number of NHCC members have enjoyed this ride in the past and if anyone is interested in it, early bird registration ends August 15th. Even after that date the price is very reasonable.

Check out the details on the link. https://lennox-addington.on.ca/explore/discover-la-ride

Level 2 Rides, Tues Aug 13 and Thurs Aug 15

Tues Aug 13, Level2 Ride: Westwd Cobourg

****Note New 6pm Start Times****

Just a reminder that Level 2’s Tuesday’s rides are a “Steady” Ride (that is, lower end of the average speed and distance, more moderate hills with more frequent stops).

We will start at Westwood Park parking lot and head out west up Theatre Rd and further west to Hamilton Rd. North to Dale, east until Theatre Rd again and loop back the way we came. At Telephone Road the second time we will take the pulse of the group and add a bit of kilometer-age (or not). This is an undulating but manageable course. We will take frequent stops to catch our breath and socialize. Please chime in using the comment button so we can know to expect you! Don’t forget water, helmets and lights!

Start Time: 6:00 pm
Ride Leader: Geoffrey Honey
Start Location: Westwood Park parking lot, Carlisle St, between Ewing and Westwood.

Thurs Aug 15, Level 2: Kings Field Pt Hope

Just a reminder that Level 2’s Thursday rides are a “Training Ride” (that is, gradually building up stamina for hills and or longer distances or speed within the Level 2 parameters with slightly fewer rest stops so that riders can condition themselves to move to L3 if they wish).

Pam will be showing us some of the best of Pt Hope area. Here is her ride description:

“We will try again for the loop we should have done last time – west on Lakeshore, north at Willow Beach Rd, go all the way to the 4th Line where we’ll head east again, crossing County Rd 10 to Sylvan Glen where we’ll turn south and go back to our start. About 25km. This route is a bit more challenging than most of the rides so far this year and there are a few more difficult hills but we can do it! And I promise not to lose anyone this time!”

Start Time: 6pm

Ride Leader: Pam Tate

Start Location: King’s Field on Victoria St, just south of Ridout
