We’ll be hiking on trails southwest of Warkworth. It’ll be fairly hilly with a mix of forest and fields. Be sure to bring fluids and a snack.

Since it’s a bit of a drive it may be a good idea to car pool. Port Hope folks can meet at Gilmer’s Home Hardware and leave there at 11:15 to swing by the 45/401 car pool lot to meet up with anyone leaving from Cobourg at 11:30. The weather is taking a bit of a turn for the colder now, but that doesn’t mean we have to stop moving. With a flashlights and some comfy shoes you are good to go. Meet in the parking lot of the Town Hall at 6:00 and we’ll head out from there.

Us volunteers at the NHCC want to make it a better, and even more fabulous club for 2015. Can you take about 5 minutes to fill out just 6 shrimpy questions before the upcoming Annual General Meeting? They may not sound like much, but we really do use the results of our survey to help guide and direct the club during our winter planning months. It’s totally anonymous, we promise!

Last week an enthusiastic bunch of six hikers went 10k and loved every moment. This week, we meet at Sylvan Glen and we’ll head north. Same as last week, if anyone wants to grab a quick lunch afterward, that can be negotiated too! Wear some comfy shoes, and few layers so you can adjust for changes in temperature.

The Year-end Social and Annual Meeting is approaching in just 3 weeks on Wednesday November 26th, 2014. It’s a highlight of our year and always lots of fun. The menu has been selected, and planning is underway. It’s primarily a social event, with a little boring biz sandwiched in the middle.

The Boring Biz Portion:

2015 Director Nominations: We will be electing directors for 2015 3-year term vacancies. We are pleased to announce three nominees including Maria Garrett, Debbie Robertson, and Anita Macklin. Also, we anticipate approving Jim Berg’s recent appointment to the Board at the Annual Meeting.

Amendment to NHCC Bylaw 7.1.1
The NHCC has grown significantly since it’s inception and currently has 118 members. In response to this growth, a proposal will be presented to amend our Bylaws, from a fixed number (5) to a range of of 5-7 directors. Not all vacancies will be filled at all times.

RSVP, IMPORTANT: Prepayment is essential if you plan to attend, since we need to confirm numbers for dinner. The deadline for submitting payment is November 20th. By the way, guests, family, and friends are most welcome. They too will also be eligible to purchase a 2015 Membership for the special price of $35 that evening.

It’s off-season for cycling, and that means we find other fun ways to keep moving. Tomorrow it’s hiking! We’ll meet in the Port Hope Town Hall parking lot and then hike to Sylan Glen and back. If anyone wants to grab a quick lunch afterward, well, we can negotiate that too!

Important: Don’t forget that the clocks turn back tonight. If you forget, you might show up at 10 and nobody will be there!

It’s supposed to be 13° which is great, because after that it will be just 4° by Saturday. So, let’s enjoy it while we can! If you haven’t been out to a hike yet, we’d love to see you come out. If you have a headlamp or flashlight, we recommend bringing it. By the way, it’s almost Halloweeeeeeeen, so you never know what sort of tricks or treats might be along the route.   🙂

Forecast for Sunday: Sunshine and 13°. That sounds like good riding weather to us! Also, the hiking bunch were out the other night, and discovered a new restaurant that just opened on Thursday. It’s as cute as a button inside so it’s only fitting that we plan on some lunch. We even picked up a menu so you can pre-think it. The restaurant is located down at the harbour, across from the beach. We’ll start and finish in Port Hope but you can make it a little longer by starting in Cobourg at 9:30.

It’s cool and crispy, but great weather to go for a casual, friendly hike. We meet at the usual time and place. This week however, please bring a headlamp if you have one. It’s getting dark out there very early, but that’s no reason to cut the hike short. 🙂
