Level 4 Ride: Thursday August 8

There’s a new start time because the daylight hours are shrinking and the sun is now setting closer to 8:30. We’ll have a little safety instruction as usual, then the ride will head west through New Amherst and then south and back towards downtown. Our level one rides are designed for enjoyment & making new friends, riding at a leisurely pace with frequent stops for rest and hydration. See you out at the ride!

Wednesday August 7: Level 3 and 4 rides (NEW start time)

IMPORTANT: Please note that due to the earlier sunsets and shorter days, there is a new start time of 6:00pm

Level 3 Group Ride: “A slightly shorter route than last Wednesday but don’t be fooled. We’ll still have plenty of opportunities to burn up those calories whilst enjoying the countryside. Steady climb to start with but then a glorious ride down to Rice Lake, a photo op at the lake shore no doubt, and then a meandering route home. Should be fun! Looking forward to seeing you all there. Please do post a comment and let us know that you are planning to ride. Nights are beginning to draw in so do not forget lights (or to fully charge them!).”
(Allan)

Level 4: This week’s Level 4 follows the same route as Level 3 for the first 33km, but then diverts down Williamson then takes in Bickle Hill for some added fun! It’s a 12km extension making a total of 51km. This is the group where you can set whatever pace you like! It’s likely that the group will stay together, but breaking into smaller units according to pace preference is certainly an option.

Note, Tuesday’s ride is a “Steady” ride with more stops and a more moderate Level 2 pace.

David Hutzel is taking us out Grafton way so we can cool down a bit by the lake. Here is his description of the ride: “We’ll start again from St. Mary’s church parking lot and head south on Station road. Turning left at the stop sign at Orchard Grove we’ll follow the lakefront route past Wicklow Beach to Lakeport where we’ll turn around and follow the same scenic route back to the finish. A distance of mostly flat 23k but with regular stops for hydration and regrouping, we’ll be back before you know it.”

LONG WEEKEND: No scheduled Rides

Another glorious long weekend is upon us! It’s the Civic Holiday this coming Monday and as usual the roads around Northumberland County will be quite busy and many of us go away. There are no scheduled rides for Friday, August 2nd, Sunday, August 4th or Monday, August 5th. We will be back to regularly scheduled rides on Tuesday, August 6th.

Have a wonderful and safe long weekend everyone!

Level 4: Thursday August 1. (NEW: 6:00 start time)

Yes indeed! Beagle Club is a great place to start a ride and it’s a beauty route with fantastic views and plenty of rolling hills. Because it’s August and the days are getting shorter we are now starting evening rides at 6:00. at least you can still ride it at whatever pace you want, cuz it’s self-navigated. It’s important to leave a comment letting others know you’ll ride so people can plan.

Wednesday July 31: Level 3 and 4 ride

“We’ve done this route in the past couple of years but just to change it up and give you a different perspective on the same countryside we’ll do it the other way round. Don’t worry the RWGPS reflects this reversed direction of travel! The name’s new too. Hint for those of you trying to crack the naming convention: What was the original name of Ottawa and why? Looking forward to a great ride. Come and join us!” (Allan)

Level 4 option: this week it will consist of a 5km extension that starts around the 24km mark and covers a loop around Eddystone making it a 51km route.  After completing the extension, the route reconnects to the shorter L3 route until the end.  Hey, if you aren’t sure about keeping up with the level 4 group, feel free to start out with them and then you always have the option of waiting at the 23km mark if you want to wait and re-join the Level 3 group ride.
