This Sunday we’re off to Wolfe Island, an area highly recommended for cycling due to relatively few cars on the roads. The terrain should be fairly flat and those wanting to get in a few kilometers can probably get in at least 70km if you ride to the east and back as well as south and back. Because it’s an out and back ride on the same roads, you can turn back any time and make what you want of the ride so it can be suitable for all levels. There won’t be designated ride leaders so those wishing to do the same level should stay together as a group.
There are opportunities to purchase some food at the convenience store or at the one or two restaurants in Marysville, (and Slickers ice cream is sold in town!), but the rest of the island doesn’t provide that chance. Either plan on buying something in Marysville, and/or bring fluids, snacks, and lunch with you. Leigh Thompson will be driving onto the island and will have a cooler with her if you wish to have her transport something for you.
We’re planning on catching the 10:30 ferry so make sure you allow time to park, get your stuff together, and be ready to board by then. There is some free parking available, as well as paid parking so be prepared to pay, just in case! The ferry is free and takes 20 minutes to cross.
Because this ride involves driving to Kingston, please let us know if you are planning to come. Maybe riders can arrange car pooling amongst yourselves, and we’d like to make sure we don’t miss anyone who wants to be part of the day. It’s also helpful if you indicate the distance you’re interested in.
Date: Sunday, August 7th
Time: please get to the parking lot around 10:00, be ready to catch the 10:30 ferry
Level: suitable for all
Meeting Location: near the dock of the ferry to Wolfe Island
I’ll be there and am bringing a friend. We plan on riding 70km at a level 3 pace (or 2+ depending on what others wish to do. We want to enjoy the scenery so not just going for speed).
I’ll be going. I’m at a level 2. Hopefully others will be going also. I plan to leave Cbrg by 9am. Allowing for Tim’s stop and traffic. I have room for one more bike along with mine, If someone would like to join me.
Or, If there is someone with multiple bike space, I’d love to join you
Hi Olga, I was going to start this message by suggesting that you leave before 9 but you’re onto that, lol!
Perhaps I could join with you?
Hi Olga. I could pick you up if you’d still like some company. I was going to fly solo on baby alert but things seem to be fine. Text me!
…actually, change the leaving time to 8:30am.
: -)
I will be there if anyone needs a lift have space for 1 bike on the bike carrier
Hi Richard, Catherine here. I am looking to ride with someone. My car is in the shop!
I plan to be there, prob 70k at L3. I’ll make my own way there, see you then!
I plan to be there and ride 70km at level 3
I plan to be there. I agree with Maria about the pace and scenery! 70K sounds lovely.
My wife Sandy and I, hope to be there for a Level 1 ride.
Ruthanne and I are riding at level 1-2 pace. 😊
Thinking of taking car across so it’s on the island side while we’re riding. Thoughts on this?
From what I read, bikes always get onto the ferry but cars may have to wait if it’s busy. Ferries run every hour so if you can’t get on the 10:30, it’ll be 11:30 at the earliest that you can board. You could always evaluate the situation when you get there
Thanks for the reality check Maria. If the ferry ran every 30 mins like Glenora I might chance it. 😊
I will be going. I will be bringing a friend. We will be riding a level 2.
If someone still has room, for a rider/bike, I would be interested in going.
Did you find a ride Shawn? I’m coming from Warkworth and am already bringing another bike and person so can’t fit another in.
I’ll make it to the next ride, have a good time.
We seem to be having trouble with the notification of following comments so I’m concerned that anyone who has posted earlier wouldn’t have seen your request unless they purposely went back to the website. Still hoping something works out for you Shawn!
