Sunday September 9th: Ride from Donegan Park (10am)

There is no planned route for Sunday again. Just like our freestyling Thursday was, you have the opportunity to plot via the commenting below. Pick a route, get a few to agree, and you’re in business! Might we make a gentle suggestion that the “Bickle Hill and More” route might be……ummm, somewhat hilly and might not for the faint of heart.

Start time: 10:00am
Start location: Donegan Park
Route: To be determined by group consensus

If you have a route you like, please make a suggestion.

Post-Grand-Opening ride, Saturday Sept. 8th, 2012 (11:30am)

Saturday at 10:30 is the grand opening of Cycle Transitions and we hope that the NHCC will be there to celebrate. (Don’t forget to bring a coffee mug). Come on out on your bikes, wear your snappy flashy jerseys (there might be press there) and after the opening, we will head out for an easy, social ride. Nothing too long or strenuous. Probably about an hour long or a little more.

Start time: 10:30 (Grand Opening) and 11:30 (bike ride)
Location: 739 D’Arcy St. across from the Cobourg Community Centre. Take the first driveway south of the north round-about, then turn right to access parking behind the building.

Thursday September 6th: Ride from Donegan Park (10am)

There is no planned route for Thursday. It’s more of a “freestyle” day where you have the opportunity to make a planned route via the commenting below. All you have to do is specify the route you want to take, get a few to agree, and it’s done!

Start time: 10:00am
Start location: Donegan Park
Route: To be determined by group consensus

If you have a route suggestion, please make a suggestion.

EASY RIDE: Wednesday September 5th, 6:30 pm

This route starts and finishes at the park on Carlisle. Be sure to have appropriate lights on the fronts and backs of your bikes. The sun officially sets at 7:42pm and the law in Ontario requires lights on bikes beginning 30 minutes before sunset. That means that at 7:12pm the lights should be going on. After all this rain, surely tomorrow night will be  sunny again!

Cycling and the Law
As cyclists we are governed by the Highway Traffic Act and subject to fines for non-compliance. Upon researching what the fine was for not having a light, it was interesting to note all the different cycling infractions and their associated fines. For instance, did you know that it’s an $85 penalty for not carrying identification? The same applies to not having a bell. Passing a school bus with lights flashing: $400. For a complete list check out the link here: Cycling and the Law

Start time: 6:30pm
Start location: The park on Carlisle between Ewing and Westwood
Route map: To be determined by group consensus
Ride Leader: Volunteer Needed

Please use the comment section to mention if you are riding.

Port Hope Ride tonight cancelled

The weather is warning of an additional 20-30mm of rain to come and the radar is dismal, so we’ll officially cancel tonight’s ride. (That’s a first.) Gardeners rejoice!

See you all at the Wednesday ride.

NHCC Century Ride planning: Need a few volunteers

The NHCC Century Ride will take place on Sunday the 23rd with a 9am start. Full details will follow in the next few days.

We hope to offer both a Metric Century (100km) true Century Ride (160.9km) complete with a sag wagon to assist riders, and also to provide water, snacks, ice, and other essentials at various points along the route.

In order to make this happen, we are asking for a couple of volunteers to drive a vehicle that could accommodate a couple of bicycles if necessary, and assist in the distribution of the items as described above. The volunteers do not need to be club member….so it’s a great way to get your spouse/partner out participating with us  (hint hint) 🙂

The NHCC would supply all of the described items and also reimburse the volunteer driver(s) gas costs.

Any volunteers? If you want to be part of the planning, please comment below.

RIDE in Port Hope—Tuesday September 4th Easy Ride (6:30pm)

Let’s hope the weather cooperates (even though our gardens could use a little rain) If you are riding, please make sure you have a light on both the front and back of your bike because it’s getting darker earlier now. This will be an Eeeeeeeeaaaaassy ride.  🙂

Start time: 6:30 pm (6:00 from Canadian Tire Cobourg)
Start location: Port Hope Town Hall
Ride leader: Heather and Brendan (Thanks, guys!)

Grand Opening of Cycle Transitions, Saturday Sept. 8th, 2012 (10:30am)

Below is an invitation from the fabulous folks at Cycle Transitions.

“Cycle Transitions, a project of Go Green Together and Sustainable Cobourg’s Bicycle Action Committee, will open its doors to the public for the first time on Saturday, September 8 at 10:30am You are invited to attend! (Please bring along your own coffee mug to enjoy some fresh coffee!)

Cycle Transitions does two things: conducts skills training courses for cycling safely (Can-Bike Instruction), and operates a Do It Yourself workshop for bicycle repair. Our goal is to get as many people riding their bicycles, both safely and on bikes in good repair. We are a non-profit organization staffed completely by volunteers. Start-up funding has come in part from the Healthy Communities Fund of the Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care.

At our grand opening, we’ll do the “ribbon-cutting” to officially open the doors, share our project goals with you, and give you a tour of our new facilities. See our classroom (shared with Go Green Together) and our spacious, well-equipped workshop. Learn how you can sign up for courses and how you can become a member of Cycle Transitions.

Cycle Transitions is located at 739 D’Arcy St. across from the Cobourg Community Centre. Take the first driveway south of the north round-about, then turn right to access parking behind our building. See you there!” (The Staff at Cycle Transitions)
