Thursday Oct. 4th: Ride from Cobourg (Donegan Park)

No particular route planned—so if you are looking to ride, please suggest a route and we’ll go from there. Thursday and Friday will be warm (with a possibility of rain, but nothing crazy) And then it gets cooooold for the weekend. It’s looking like tomorrow is the best day for riding if you prefer warmth!

Start time: 10:00am
Start location: Donegan Park
Route: To be determined by group consensus.

Please mention below if you wish to ride.

Wednesday October 3rd: Easy ride starting at Cycle Transitions

The evening rides will be no more at the end of October. But for now, we still have some enthusiastic ones who want to get in as many rides as they can before that. We know it’s an early start, but it’s what we gotta do if we want to get any sort of distance in before the sun sets. The sun is setting almost two minutes earlier each day that passes!

Start time: 5:30pm
Sunset: 6:52pm (lights must be on at 6:22pm)
Start location: Cycle Transitions on D’Arcy St. Click here for Cycle Transitions location
Route: 25 km Pebble Beach Route Map with elevation chart here.

Check out the two articles below. This 100-year old cyclist should be an inspiration to us all, and proof of “why we cycle”.

Sunday Sept. 30: “Shelter Valley” 50km or 18km ride (10am)

The forecast says there’s a 40% chance of rain, but those of us who can do the math know that means there’s a 60% chance it won’t. So, let’s plan on a 50k ride from Donegan Park, and check out Shelter Valley Road. It’s a nice, scenic route. And there’s a nice little shorty option (18km) for those wanting to ride for just an hour or less.

Start time: 10:00am
Start location: Donegan Park

Please mention below if you wish to ride and which distance you are hoping to cover.

Bicycle Donation Drive at Cycle Transitions (Sat. Sept 29)

Below is an announcement from Cycle Transitions:

We’ll take any bicycle, in any condition.  We’ll refurbish the bicycle, use it for parts or scrap it.  Some of the bicycles will be available for our “Sweat Equity” program – individuals can receive credit by volunteering at CT and in return use that credit to purchase a refurbished bicycle from our stock.

Funds generated from the sale of these bicycles or their parts will go towards the operating costs of Cycle Transitions, a non-profit, volunteer-run organization working to increase safe cycling in Northumberland County.  (www.cycletransitions.org)

If you have one or more bicycles to donate, but don’t have the means to transport them to CT, give us a call (905.377.1278) or send an email (info@cycletransitions.org); we’ll arrange for them to be picked up.
