Tuesday June 12: Level 2 ride

Rick will do a “Cornish Hollow Run” this week. The route starts at The Mill, then goes:
-north on Ontario to Dale Road
-north on Cornish Hollow Road to Ball (a “training hill” just before the turn onto Ball
-east on Ball Road to Ferguson Road
-south on Ferguson Road to Rose Road
-east on Rose Road to Leach Road
-south on Leach Road to Racetrack Road
-south on Racetrack Road to Dale Road
-south on Division Street to Olivers Lane
-west on Olivers Lane to June Avenue
-west on June Avenue to Ontario Street
-south on Ontario Street to the Mill

Total distance: 19km

Thursday June 14: Level 2 ride

Jim will take the group on a ride to Grafton and back on Thursday. We’ll go out along Hwy 2 to Grafton, south on Old Danforth and Station Street, then taking the Waterfront Trail back to the starting location.
This route has one longer hill near Gully Road. We will go up 100 feet (34 m) over 1.5 km. For this hill, slow and steady works very well.

Debbie will be leading a Port Hope ride that goes from Beatrice Strong Public School down to the lake and back on quiet residential streets.

Wednesday, June 13th

Dennis is taking the group down to the Cobourg Harbour from the parkette behind the mall. Nobody will be left behind as is our policy for each and every Level 1 ride, and there will be rest and water breaks, also as usual.

This ride is 38 km in length and will traverse the hills north of Baltimore.

Wednesday June 13: Level 3 ride

This ride is 34 km in length. It is time to test our mid-season fitness levels. We will head north from the arena and make our way up to Camborne (via Smylie). We will then make our way to to Bickle Hill and climb it from the east.

Max’s Big Ride – Wednesday, June 13th

Let’s show some support to a charity ride by joining Max and his Dad as they arrive in the area on June 13th. We are inviting NHCC members to meet up with Max’s Big Ride on Wednesday, June 13th. Please wear your NHCC jerseys and of course ride your bike! Meet at the southeast parking lot of Canadian Tire on Rogers road. The riders will arrive between 1:15 pm and 2:00 pm. Or you can ride towards Port Hope to meet Max and Andrew.
Max’s Big Ride began in 2015.  The ride is to increase awareness about Duchenne muscular dystrophy and to raise money for research into a cure. Max and Andrew will start the ride on June 11 in Hamilton and finish 600km later in Ottawa on Father’s Day.  For more information Click here

This week’s floater ride is taking place tomorrow at 10am, and we’re expecting beautiful sunny weather! We’ll head out for about an hour and a half and cover some hills (but not Bickle, so don’t panic).

Sunday, June 10th – Long Club Ride 70+km

This Sunday we will head north to Harwood on Rice Lake.  There are lots of beautiful views and quiet roads on this route. This route is called a ‘ramble’ so there may be stops along the way for photos, butter tarts or a quick lunch. This will be a 75 km ride, maybe more depending on our stops.

Level 4 rides: Tues June 5 and Thurs June 7

This week Josie will make her debut as a Level 4 ride leader on Tuesday evening! Josie has been fully safety trained and is enthusiastic about giving back to the NHCC by leading rides and creating a great Club experience for others.

Tues June 5 Level 2 Ride:  Boston Pizza Social

Geoffrey is Starting/ Ending the ride in the Northumberland Mall Parking lot near Boston Pizza so we can do a ‘social’ after our ride if desired. The route goes out through New Amherst, Waterfront Trail (Hwy 2) to Theatre Rd. Right on Dale Rd., Right on Danforth Rd., Right on Ontario, Right on University, Left on Margaret, Right on King, Right on Burnham, Left on Westwood, Left on Ewing, Left on Kerr Right on ‘secret passage’ to Rogers and Right into mall parking lot. 20 Kms total ride.

There is one ‘training hill’ up Dale to Danforth that requires shifting gears. We will have frequent ‘water/rest/breathtaking’ stops. Please chime in using the comment section to let us know you are coming and if you can sweep for the ride!

Thurs June 7 Level 2 Ride: Wicklow  Colborne

Geoffrey is starting this ride at the Wicklow Boat Launch and using the Waterfront Trail and Hwy 2 to make a loop to Colborne. Will we find ice cream in Colborne?

Starting and ending at the Wicklow Boat Launch Parking Lot we will go out on the Waterfront Trail to Colborne. Hope to find some kind of ice cream purveyors. Head back along Hwy 2 to Wicklow Beach Rd and head back south to the Boat Launch Parking Lot. Total distance about 20 km. We will have frequent ‘water/rest/breathtaking’ stops. This is a slightly flatter ride than Tuesday’s ride.

Our immediate past president, Anita, will lead the level 1 ride this week, leaving from Donegan Park. Anita has coordinated our safety program for a number of years (since she founded it!) and is passionate about safe and fun riding.

Sunday, June 3rd – NHCC “David Pollack” Memorial Ride (33km or 100km)

This Sunday we honour a past NHCC club member David Pollack who passed away in March of this year.

A bench is being placed along the Millennium Lilac Trail in Warkworth in David’s memory. As David contributed greatly to our club along with countless local events and organizations, we are asking Sunday’s participants to make a voluntary donation.

The route: Both distances will take us all the way to beautiful Warkworth. This will allow us to see approximately where the bench will be placed as well as stop for coffee at Our Lucky Stars in Warkworth. We will also make a stop at the Cheeky Bee Candle Company in Warkworth where the donations are being accepted.
