With fresh snow on it’s way, we’ll head outside Saturday to enjoy a couple of outdoor activities!
In the morning, the Pine Ridge Hiking Club will be snow shoeing on the Leckey Property, part of the Northumberland Land Trust and all are welcome to join. The terrain is moderate and there are 4 or 6km options. If you wish to carpool, the hiking club will be leaving the Home Hardware parking lot, Toronto Road in Port Hope at 9:30 a.m., or the commuter parking lot at 45 and 401 at 9:50 a.m.. If you wish to meet at the property, it is at the end of Kelly Road which runs off of Morganston Road, north of Castleton.
Date: Saturday, February 8th
Start Time: 10:15 a.m.
Meeting Location: see above for car pool options but be sure to arrive at least 10 minutes before departure time, or at the end of Kelly Road
Snow Shoe Leader: Maria Siemiaszko
Distance: approx. 4 or 6km
The full snow moon is this weekend and we’ll enjoy it with a full moon ski on the Lang Hastings Trail. It is a flat, wide, and obstacle free trail which makes it suitable for a night ski. Because this is part of the Great Trail, other activities are allowed, including snowmobiling so dig out the Christmas lights and any other lights and reflective clothing/items you have to make ourselves visible. We may explore the trail to the east first so if you can’t make the 6:00 p.m. start time but want to join us, let us know in the comments and we can make sure we come back to pick you up at 7:00 p.m.
Date: Saturday, February 8th
Start Time: 6:00 (or you can join us at 7:00 if we know to come back for you!)
Meeting Location: parking lot just south of Banjos, Hastings

Stay tuned for a probably Sunday afternoon cross country ski at Beagle Club. Post to follow soon!

2nd Call for Ride Leaders
Okay, so maybe you were a little shy the first time around and thought “noooo….I’m not confident enough for that!”. Here’s the 2nd call for Ride Leaders! We still need more if the Club is to continue offering the variety of rides we have all come to enjoy. One area that we are hoping to develop this year is more daytime rides. We still need leaders at all levels, but could really use more for:
- Longer daytime rides at a Level 2+ pace (New for this year if we can get enough leaders)
- Level 4 (the non-speed-restricted group—just set a nice pace and off you go!)
- Level 1 (the nice easy ride where you get to enjoy the scenery!)
We will get you trained and ready to go. You don’t even need to worry about planning routes—we have a library of already established routes to choose from. We’ll mentor you until you feel confident enough to lead! Really, you just need safety training and be able to maintain the appropriate pace of your chosen group. Everything else is easy peasy. Soooo….let us know if you think you can help!

Sunday Afternoon Ski (with Snowshoe Option?): January 19th
With all of fresh lovely snow, the skiing should be great on Sunday! The Beagle Club Trails are open for skiing on the weekends so we’ll let the roads get cleared off in the morning and enjoy getting out in the afternoon.
For those who prefer to snowshoe, if you leave a comment to that effect, others may like to join you. Meet at 1:00 at the Woodland parking lot and you can decide what you’d like to do as a group (no designated leader, but please feel free to volunteer!).
For the ski group:
Date: Sunday, January 19th
Start Time: 1:00
Meeting Location: Beagle Club parking lot
Ski Leader: Maria Siemiaszko
Sunday Morning Hike: January 5th
We’ll meet at the Beagle Club parking lot and head over to the Flying Squirrel, Dragonfly, and Stonewall Trails as we haven’t visited them for a while. Bring fluids, a snack if you wish, and icers/poles. I have no idea whether there is enough snow to ski, but if anyone wants to put their ski stuff in their car in case there is, you can venture off for a ski afterwards.
Date: Sunday, January 5th
Start Time: 10:30
Meeting Location: parking lot at Beagle Club
Hike Leader: Maria Siemiaszko
Weekend Skiing: December 21st and 22nd
The snow is great and the forest is looking Christmas-like with the sun sparkling through snow covered branches. Let’s get out for some fresh air, exercise, while we welcome winter together.
On Sunday we will offer a slower and shorter ski option if anyone prefers that, in addition to our regular ski.
Dates: Saturday, December 21st and Sunday, December 22nd
Start Time: 10:00
Meeting Location: parking lot at Beagle Club
Ski Organizer: Maria Siemiaszko
