Bike Week in Cobourg: May 28 – June 3 (Saturday to Friday)

The first ever Bike Week has been proclaimed by the Town of Cobourg, in cooperation with Sustainable Cobourg. Bike Week events take place from Saturday, May 28th to Friday June 3rd.

Bike Week aims to celebrate, educate and increase participation in cycling. It’s an exciting, community driven event encouraging people of all ages and abilities to get outside and be more active. The inaugural Bike Week will be kicked off with the Bike for the Planet event on Saturday morning, 10am.

Sustainable Cobourg coordinates Bike Week and works with the Town of Cobourg to publicize it. Bike Week events are hosted by dedicated volunteers and community groups.

All events are free. 
Children must be accompanied by an adult.
Helmets are compulsory in order to participate in any of the events.

Bike for the Planet (Saturday)

Date: Saturday, May 28th, 10am

Description:
Ever ride with 150 people and a police escort? This 12-km bike ride around the Town of Cobourg that will highlight the features that make Cobourg a bike-friendly town, such as bike lanes, bike paths, bicycle parking facilities etc. It’s a safe, family cycling event that’s been a lot of fun in the past. Check out the pictures of last year’s event. The event is totally free. There will be really cool, original design T-shirts for sale. ($15)

Community Bike Ride (Sunday)

Date: Sunday, May 29th, 10am

Bike to Work (or School) Day (Monday)

Date: Monday, May 30th
Description: Cobourg’s Bike to Work Day provides a fun way for you, your friends and colleagues to join in cycling to work or to school! The Bike to Work Day event promotes cycling as a healthy, efficient, convenient, low-cost means of transport which contributes to a reduction of inner city traffic congestion and pollution. Did you know that due to traffic congestion, stop signs, etc. in town, a bicycle travelling 3km arrives at it’s destination at approximately the same time as a car would? Try it!

Community Bike Ride (Tuesday Evening)

Date: Tuesday, May 31th, 6:30pm
Location: Donegan Park parking lot
Hosted by: Northumberland Hills Cycling Club
Description:
 The Northumberland Hills Cycling Club will open it’s doors to members of the public who wish to try out what it’s like to ride with a group. Bring your helmet, hop on your bike and be at the Park for 6:30pm. The ride will last about an hour.

Note: Waivers will be available prior to the ride and must be signed.

  1. Loving the bike week line-up!! Monday is “ride your bike to school day”. At St. Mary’s we are encouraging students to ride to school that day, and not get a ride or take the bus. 🙂
