2014 NHCC Year-End Social and Annual Meeting

It’s that time again! We get together celebrate the past year of cycling, enjoy some great food, do a few awards and other fun stuff at our Year-End Social and Annual Meeting. This year we’re taking it to a new venue, the Best Western. It’s always a highlight of the year for the NHCC! Plus, you get to see everyone without their spandex and helmets on.

You’ll enjoy a great buffet and an evening of fun and social atmosphere. We’ll also conduct a little boring biz by electing a few people to the Board and run some numbers by everyone. And as usual, we have a few awards to give out too.

NHCC Call for Board of Director nominations

The NHCC Annual General Meeting is approaching in November (date to be announced) and we are looking for interested individuals willing to invest some time, expertise, and enthusiasm in helping the NHCC continue to grow and become even more awesome! It’s an opportunity for those who love cycling and what the NHCC represents, to get involved and help us further our goals by being elected to the NHCC Board of Directors.

The Board consists of 5 Directors who meet 4-6 times annually, typically at a director’s home. Some club business may be conducted via email from time to time if appropriate. Once assembled, the Board will decide on a meeting schedule that’s most convenient for it’s members. You may also be asked to get involved in various activities where your expertise and interests could really assist.

There are 2 positions open for the 2015 Board of Directors, each for a term of 3 years.

We are looking for individuals who may have one or more of the following skills:

  • Cycling and related skills including safety training, first-aid, ride leader experience, and/or cycle touring experience

Sunday October 5th: All Levels ride, Lang Hastings Trail

It’s off-season (somewhat) so that’s when we start to do things a little different. Weather permitting we’ll ride the Lang Hastings trail, a crushed limestone multipurpose trail. One way to the Peterborough end of the trail is just over 30km, but riders can do the entire distance there and back or turn around at any point.

Please note the afternoon start. With the weather predicted to be cooling off again, it’ll hopefully give a chance for any fog to burn off and the temperature to warm up. Bring lots of fluids and a snack. If anyone wants to drop in at Banjos afterwards, make a comment on the site.

Date:  Sunday, October 5th
Time: 1:00 pm
Meeting Place:  parking lot south of Banjos in Hastings, south of the bridge (west side), Hwy 45
Ride Leader: Maria Garrett

Wednesday October 1st: Off Season Hike Night

Since an evening ride is no longer an option, we will instead offer the opportunity to do something a little different. Meet at 6pm at the Port Hope Town Hall with some comfortable shoes cuz we are going for a Hike! Yes, a Hike! Nothing to strenuous, just a little walking and social time. Keeps our bodies moving and it’ll be fun. If it turns out to be of interest to members, we’ll consider making it a regular event.

Time: 6pm
Location: Port Hope Town Hall parking lot
Hike Leader: George Hussey

Because it’s a new activity and we’d like to know how many are interested, please leave a comment indicating that you plan to attend.

Monday Sept. 29: Bike Maintenance Workshop

We’re not ready to stop riding yet, but before the season is over for most folks we’re offering a workshop on how to clean and maintain your bike. Many of you bought beautiful new bikes this summer, but if you haven’t done a thing with it yet, you probably should have! New or not so new, we’ll learn how to clean our bikes, clean and lubricate the chain, and change a flat tire. This is a hands on workshop so bring your bike and get ready to get your hands a little dirty!

Sunday September 28: Sunshiny ride and lunch at Rhinos

All riiiiiight! The forecast is 25C for Sunday and sunshine! Summer seems to be giving us a second chance. It will be a great opportunity to ride up to Bewdley, have lunch on the outdoor patio (you’ll have to do the 72k route) and then coast home, mostly downhill. You gotta do the uphill first though. 🙂 If you want to stay for lunch at Rhinos, bring a few extra $ with you, leave a comment so we can make sure that adequate space is reserved.

Start time: 10am
Start location: The park on Carlisle between Westwood and Ewing
Route map (62k): Printable route map here or view it on Ride with GPS

Let us know if you are riding, but more importantly if you plan to get lunch at Rhinos.

Thursday September 25: Ride at 10am

We did this one a while ago, but folks really enjoyed it so we will do it again. We can’t lie….it’s a hilly one, but there are two distances to choose from. You’ll head along the Lakeshore, travel north to the 7th line (we all know how hilly that is!) then decide if you want to head over to Bewdley or skip out on a little distance and take the shorter route.

Start time: 10am
Start location: The park on Carlisle between Westwood and Ewing

I know, we say it all the time, but please leave a comment if you hope to ride.
