Century Ride Support Details for Sundays

At the moment the forecast calls for 30% chance of rain, so we’re still on schedule!

For all participating in the Century 100/160k ride this weekend, fellow club member Dennis Benson has kindly offered his time and his vehicle to offer support.  At the start point each rider can put a small backpack or bag into the vehicle prior to departure. You may wish to drop off a lunch (please ensure you include any necessary chill-packs). The following support will be offered:

100k: Support vehicle will be present at the Lighthouse in Presqu’ile when riders arrive. The following will be provided to all riders: Trail mix, bananas, fig newtons, gatorade and fresh, cold water. Take as long a break as you wish, enjoy some snacks, and re-load water bottles before heading back to Cobourg.

160k: Same as the 100k. PLUS, after the riders depart the park for their additional 60k, they return to the park entrance where Dennis will be available once more with the same food, gatorade, and water. Dennis will then “sweep” as the riders continue back to Cobourg.

Thursday August 29th: 38k MORNING ride from Cycle Transitions

The morning ride will be a shorter easier one than usual. That’s because we are in a “taper” mode in preparation for Sundays Century Ride. This route will take the same roads as will the upcoming United Way charity ride that’s taking place in September.

Please ensure that you print out a map and have it with you. There may not be a ride leader for this ride!

Start time: 9:00am
Start location: Cycle Transitions on D’Arcy St.
Route map: 38km route map here (printable) or link to Ride with GPS

Please use the comment section to let others know you are riding. At this time of the season there are many folks away on holidays so there are far fewer riders.

Century Ride: 160k or 100k on Sunday Sept. 1st

This is it, the Big Distance ride for our club. Choose your distance, make sure your bike is in good working order, and be ready to ride far! Both routes will depart from the Arena on Furnace St. and ride all the way to the lighthouse in Presqu’ile Park, then the 100k riders head back to Cobourg while the 160k riders proceed out the Park and then do a 60k loop around the Lake Consecon area before heading back to Cobourg.

Be prepared! It’s essential to have a tire changing kit with a spare tube, a little $$ in case you need something along the way, I.D., route map, and a PLAN. A plan includes having a phone number of someone to call in case you need to bail out, some trail mix or something in your pocket for food, or an idea about where you will stop for lunch and with whom.

It’s a long way to go. Plan to set aside your day for it, ride at a comfortable pace. Use the commenting feature here to let others know you are riding and try to “buddy up” with others who will be riding around your pace.

Start time: 9:00am
Start location: The Arena on Furnace St.

Monday August 26: Evening ride at 6:30

Ride Cancelled due to weather

If the weather holds out, we’ll do our evening ride at 6:30pm this evening. The days are getting shorter all the time, thus necessitating the earlier start.

Start time: 6:30pm
Start location: The Arena on Furnace St.
Ride leader: Anita Macklin

Please monitor the weather situation. If the 70% chance of thunderstorms appear to be materializing the ride may be cancelled. Otherwise, see you all there!
