Northumberland Forest Hike: Sunday, January 6th

Heather says: please join me for a Sunday afternoon hike tomorrow at 1:00 of the Woodland Trails – Northumberland Forest. Trail head is on the east side of 45 across from Woodland Road. There are 7.5 and 9km options so we can decide based on the group and the weather. Conditions are somewhat icy so poles and grips for shoes are advisable if you have them.

Cross Country Ski Workshop at Cycle Transitions: Tuesday, January 22nd

Whether you are a novice or experienced skier, this cross country ski workshop may be of interest to you. We’ll cover various topics such as what should you wear as well as bring along in your pack, types of skis – what’s best for individual skiers and best for conditions, where to ski in Northumberland County and beyond, and waxing instruction for those who use wax skis (and by the way, “waxless” skis actually need occasional waxing!).

Cost: if you are already a Cycle Transitions member, there is no cost. If you are a member of NHCC but not CT, you can either purchase a monthly CT membership for $10, or a full single membership for $35 (or family membership $55) which entitles you access to all workshops and use of the facility and tools during shop hours.

New Years Day Hike & Potluck: January 1, 2019

What better way than to start off 2019 than a Hike & Potluck? We know you’ll all be recovering from your celebrations the evening before so we won’t start until 2:00pm.

If you are around and are feelin social, meet at Randy & Anita’s home at 2:00 where we’ll head out for 1.5 – 2 hour hike. We’ll return around 4:00ish and share in a Potluck. If you can’t make it out for the hike but can make it to the Potluck, you are most welcome. And of course, you may bring a friend! All NHCC and Ganaraska Freewheelers members are welcome, just let us know you are coming so we can plan accordingly!

Thursday Night Hike: December 27th

We will meet at the parking lot at the Port Hope Town Hall and then do a semi-urban hike of 5 to 8 kms.
After the hike we will probably go to Nookies Soul Kitchen for wings and refreshments. These hikes are free to non-members. We just need a signed off-season waiver (see right side of NHCC homepage).

Dec. 18: Tuesday morning hike

This time we’ll start and finish at Rick and Maaike’s home where we’ll enjoy some post-hike refreshments. The hike will be in Cobourg’s east end. These Tuesday morning hikes are always a good source of lively conversation and exploration, so come on out! Please leave a comment that you are coming so we can anticipate numbers.

Thursday Night Hike: December 20th

We will meet in the parking lot at the Port Hope Town Hall at 6:00 then do a semi-urban hike of 5 to 8 kms.
This week we will head east and enjoy the Christmas lights and displays on that side of town. Feel free to wear festive lights, etc. Last week Randy won the “Clark Griswold” award. These hikes are free to non members. We just need a signed off-sesson waiver (see right side of NHCC homepage).

Morning Hike: Sunday, December 16th

Rick and Maaike will lead us on a 9km hike on the Sweet Fern Trail in the Northumberland Forest.

Start Time: 10:00
Meeting Location: Woodland Road parking lot (on the right side of 45, a couple of kilometers past Beagle Club Road if you are coming from the south)
Level of difficulty: moderate with some steep climbing sections. Icers and poles are helpful

Night Hike: Thursday, December 13th

We will meet in the parking lot at the Port Hope Town Hall at 6:00 and then do a semi-urban hike of 5 to 8 kms. Tuesday Dec 11 Morning Hike-Explore

More exploring! Somehow we always manage to find new discoveries. This week Anita will lead the way to somewhere…about 7-8km. We’ll pop into the Dutch Oven afterward for coffee. We usually finish around 11am, so if you aren’t up for the hike, you can always join us for the social coffee time.

Sunday, December 9th: Morning Hike

Should be a sunny day so let’s start it off with a hike in the Northumberland Forest. We’ll go out for a couple of hours so dress in layers, bring fluids and a snack. Icers and poles might be good to tote along if you have some.
