The forecast for this week is pure sunshine all the way to Sunday, and even then it’s only a 30% chance of rain. Should be a great week for cycling!
Before you head out for an evening ride this week, be aware that the Making Ontario Roads Safer Act, complete with steeper fines and demerit points takes effect on Tuesday. A few things of particular interest to cyclists are:
- One Metre rule: Drivers must maintain at least one metre of space between their vehicle and a cyclist where practicable
- “Dooring”: Drivers who open their doors in the path of a cyclist (“Dooring”) can be fined between $300-$1000
- Lights on bicycles: Bicyclists who do not use a light and reflectors or reflective material can now be fined between $60 and $500
- Cyclists will be allowed to use the paved shoulders on non-400 series provincial highways.

I plan to ride on Tuesday
Doug & I plan to ride tonight (Tues.)
I hope to be there for the Thursday morning ride.
Due to time constraints I plan to leave at 9am if anyone is interested. Also the map for the 72km route doesn’t show as 72km directions. I will probably do the 61km route.
Oops. 72km = 44miles.
Great ride to everyone who participated in the Wednesday level 3 ride. We took on and conquered the Burham Street Cold Springs hill.
Four riders did the 40 km route below while Mark had a bit more distrance coming in from Port Hope.

Sorry we missed you Deanna.
Where and when is the sat special event in Hastings?
If anyone is doing the Sunday ride I’m going to wait in the empty lot at the corner of theatre road and Hwy 2 and I want to do the 72 or whatever that works out to from there in prep for next Saturday’s bike up Northumberland 100k! Have you all signed up yet? Lots of distances
Did you want to meet at 9 or 10?
I think the usual start time from cobourg 9 because it’s going to be hot again
Geesh I didn’t remember it goes to 10 in September. Doesn’t seem like September yet. Wondering if we should keep it as posted at 10 as not to leave anyone out who may not be following this
Hey Debbie, we are hoping to do the ride tomorrow. If plans change, we’ll let you know.
See you at 9.
Ok 9 it is then. I’m really messing this up 😉
