Pre-Season Ride: for all Levels, 1:00 at Donegan Park
Tomorrow we’ve got some nice temperatures in the forecast so we seize the moment again (hoping rain stays away), and do a pre-season ride from Donegan Park. There is no particular route planned. The goal is twofold—1. to get our legs moving again, and 2. to get out bums comfortable in the saddle (more on that in a sec). We’ll have something for everyone! We’ll divide up into groupings of similar ability, with the more experienced heading out into the countryside, and the newest riders sticking together locally, while some of the new Ride Leaders will head out for their own training session.
What about that sore bum thing?
Here’s the deal—your bum will probably be a little tender after the ride and it’s common. Even the most experienced will tell you that it takes 3-5 rides at the beginning of the season before that tenderness magically disappears, regardless of your saddle shape and its rigidity. It’s all about time spent on your bike. Get out on a few pre-season rides and by the time May comes around it will resolve itself!
Date: Tuesday April 12
Time: 1pm
Start location: Donegan Park, 25 D’Arcy St. Cobourg’
Ride Planner(s): Anita, Randy, Dennis
RSVP: Please use your Cycle Club Account to indicate that you’ll ride. If you plan to ride as a guest, please bring a guest waiver with you (available on the NHCC website).
Short-notice ride: 3:00 at Hamilton Township Offices
It’s short notice, but that’s how these pre-season rides sometime work. We seize the moment! This ride is at 3:00, starting at Hamilton Township Offices. We’ll just head out for a Level 3-ish ride, with the goal being mostly to get our butts accustomed to being in the saddle again. There are a few hills out here and it’s a little windy out, but we’ll take it easy.
Time: 3:00pm
Start Location: Hamilton Township Municipal Offices, 8285 Majestic Hills Road
Ride Planner: Anita
Level of difficulty: Level 3
RSVP: Please RSVP using your Cycle Club account. (Or leave a comment, if you don’t know how to use Cycle Club yet)
Pre-season Gravel Ride: Sunday at 2pm
Looks like a nice day for a gravel ride. We’ll start at Hazel Bird sanctuary and do the gravel roads and trails in the area, starting easy and building from there. “Level 3+” means there are some hills, and you can expect a little challenge as is typical in most gravel rides. Gravel or mountain bikes are best suited for this type of ride.
Date: Sunday April 10, 2022,
Time: 2pm-4pm
Start location: Hazel Bird Nature Reserve, 9636 Beavermeadow Rd. E, Baltimore
Ride Planner: Helmut Bock
Level of difficulty: 3+
RSVP required: Please use your Cycle Club account (you’ll need to register for one, if you haven’t already) to RSVP and let Helmut know you plan to ride.
