Ride: SATURDAY Sep 17th: 100km (or part thereof) to Presqu’ile and back

SATURDAY RIDE. NO SUNDAY RIDE DUE TO THE TERRY FOX RUN.

Don’t worry, you don’t need to ride the whole distance if you just want to do a small portion of it, turning around and returning as desired. Departure time will be 9:00 because of the distance.

Those wanting to do the whole distance, we’ll go all the way to the lighthouse in the park, then we’ll stop for lunch at the Harbourview Cafe before returning home.

LUNCH: Harbourview Cafe

It’s a nice easy, flat(ish) route, so for those of you worried about the distance challenge, have no fear, it can be done much easier than the 106km around Rice Lake was!

Start time: 9:00am
Start location: Donegan Park
Ride Leader: Anita Macklin

Please comment below if you are coming and the approximate distance you might be interested in. Also, please mention if you wish to join in as a group for lunch.

  1. As I mentioned in an earlier post, the Waterfront Trail between Station Road to Wicklow Beach Road has been torn up I wouldn’t ride it. I drove it last night and it is pretty rough. I have no idea if there is an alternative other than Hwy. 2.

    • A few people were talking about that on our Monday ride and we discussed either going along Hwy 2 until we pass the gravel, then heading south, or heading north on Station to Hwy 2 once we get there and bypassing it that way. It sounded like there were a few alternatives.

  2. Wish I could ride tomorrow. It is a beautiful ride. One option would be to ride up to Grafton. Turn right on Hwy. 2 and ride to Shelter Valley Road and then ride up Shelter Valley to Skyview. There is a bit of gravel at the top for a couple of hundred metres and then turn south on Wicklow Road which turns into Wicklow Beach Road. The view before the wonderful descent is well worth the climb and gravel. Of course, on your way home you would need to climb back up…unless you can find an alternative. You could go across Telephone road but the hills might be a problem for some riders. Good luck. The distance from Grafton to Wicklow is about 4Km. on Hwy 2.

  3. Three of us took a ride out there today on our bikes….they were grading the road and packing it down with a steam roller. We went two thirds of the way through the area in question and found it to be rideable enough that given a choice, we would prefer it over going up to Hwy 2. We can’t however, speak about the condition of the final third of the distance that we didn’t travel. We can talk about it in the morning before we head out and make a decision.
