It’s the long weekend and that means an NHCC Century Ride. This one ain’t for the squeamish, let me tell you! There are plenty of hills (in the second half you’ll get a wee break as we take the Waterfront Trail). It’s a great 100k to get those legs ready for the next Big One, the 160k on Labour Day weekend. When your legs are screaming after this one, you can thank our wonderful NHCC President, Randy, for developing this route! 🙂
We drove the route and sourced out an optional lunch stop in Orono, a little place called the Firehall Bistro. We checked it out and it’s a quaint little diner on the main street and their menu appears to offer some decent options for cycling-minded folks like us.
Start time: 9:00am
Start location: The Mill parking lot
Route map: “Hellacious Hilly 100k” printable route map here, or link to Ride with GPS
Ride leader: Randy Albon, of course!
Please use the comment section below to get the conversation going about who’s riding, who’s planning to stop for a quick lunch break etc.
So this is what we get for letting our prez organize a ride, whose idea was that anyway? Next time I think it should require an executive vote 🙂 and yeah I guess I will ride, grumble, grumble, grumble. Any chance of rain?
Um, NO! No rain! No grumbles. Suck it up, and just do it! Its gonna be a tough one. We were having some nervous gulps in the car as we drove it. As Jamie said, it’s a lay-on-the-couch-afterward ride.
Well I might be sick by then, ya never know what bug is going around……… if not I’ll be there
Ya won’t be sick. And they make Advil for things like that. No excuses. 🙂
I will be grumbling as well as I am peddling my a** off. No lunch stop for me as I need to be back home before 3.
Only one grumbler allowed, and that will be me!
So many words that one could say! But I a am such a gentleman don’t you know!!!!!!!
Hmm, I would like to do this distance, but I don’t see many posts here. I know I can’t keep up – I have stamina but no speed. I do have good map skills though!
I’ll think abojt it & we could take it slower together – but 75 hilly km seemsto be limit… maybe if I bring mangoes and you bring those date cashew things….I
I’ve finished thinking – am way too tired. 40’ll be good for me. Good luck to the rest of you !
I would like to try this and will see tomorrow
morning if there are any level 3s doing that route. I know I can’t do that distance at a level 4 pace. I’ll start from the furnace street arena.
Ria, are you referring to the 100k or the 50k? If it’s the 100k the start point is at The Mill parking lot. If it’s the 50k then you start at the Furnace Street arena.
If you are planning on the 100k, have no fear about having nobody to ride with. Nobody’s getting dropped as long as I’m on the ride tomorrow! 🙂
Hope to meet you at the Mill or join you somewhere on route.
Long drive to Waterloo and back yesterday, so I’m going to opt for the shorter ride – have a good ride everyone!
The weather looks perfect except for a wee bit of wind out of the NW.
I am already looking forward to the couch after this.
Hope to see lots of you out there today.
Cheers
Randy
Have to be back earlier than I had hoped. Si I will not have the time to ride.
Just thinkin….since Randy and I are already at Cornish Hollow, we’ll just meet you guys here at the cemetery about 9:10. Don’t worry, we’ll do that Ontario St. stretch at the end of the ride, we’re not cheating!
Great ride everyone! Perfect weather and good times! Have a great long weekend, what’s left of it:)
