106km Labour Day Ride: Monday, Sept. 5th (Around Rice Lake)

Please note that this will be a 9:00am start.

The route: 106km. (Okay, so it’s a little more than 100). It’s hilly in portions, and will certainly be a challenge. This is a ride for those of you who are looking for some serious distance.

Lunch: Hastings is a halfway point, so we suggest stopping for lunch at La Gondola’s which will be on the left hand side of the road as you pass through town. There’s an outdoor patio and they offer a selection of sandwiches, burgers, pizza, pasta, panzerotto, and salads. Vegetarian pizzas and pasta are also available.

Please comment below if you think you are coming.

Start time: 9:00am

  1. Good to hear we have some response for this ride. I also have 2 or 3 friends from Peterborough who will ride to Bewdley and join us. Some Freewheelers will hopefully be joining us also. I expect we will have well over 10 riders.
Anita and I drove most of our suggested route the other day.
There are two areas where I strongly suggest we opt for a bit of gravel in order to avoid the traffic on Cty Rd. 2 and Highway 28. As we leave Hastings I suggest we ride as far West on the River Road as Birdsall Line before heading North to Cty. Rd. 2. Much of it is indeed gravel, most of it not too bad, some of it lousy, but still a better option than Cy Rd. 2. Besides, the scenery is much better. Same thing as we approach Bailieboro I have us going South of Cty Rd. 2 into some gravel and hills in order to minimize the time we spend on Hwy 28.
As we head downhill on Hwy 28 to Rice Lake Drive we may wish to break convention and ride on the shoulder on the East side of the road since there is NO shoulder on the West side.
These are only suggestions and riders can opt for more pavement, and less gravel with heavily traffic if they wish.
Either way it should be a great end of Summer ride! Lots of hills and great company.
