NHCC rides for August 3rd to August 9th

Okay….so here’s the deal—Despite a survey that indicated a slight preference for an earlier morning time start, we’re going to switch it back to 10:00am and see if that works out better.

By the way, in case you missed the info, next weekend is our second NHCC Cycle Tour to Presqu’ile Park. This one’s just a single overnighter where we bike to Presqu’ile, camp out and then return the next day. We’ll have a support vehicle to take along your gear, so no worries there. We had a blast on the last tour! There are still a few spots available so please fire us off a quick email if you want to participate.

This exciting new event will take place on Saturday, September 12 and will consist of distances for all cycling enthusiasts ranging from 5k, 10k, 25k, 50k and 100k rides along our Waterfront Trail. All rides will start and finish at Donegan Park in Cobourg where pre- and post-ride festivities will be held.

registration

We are hoping a strong showing and financial support from the membership of the Northumberland Hills Cycling Club, the Cobourg Cycling Club, and as many friends and families as possible to establish a firm foundation for what will hopefully become an annual event. We’ll be participating in a sport we all love while assisting our two local county Hospitals.

Presqu’ile Tour Weekend, August 8th and 9th

Those who participated in the first NHCC tour agree that it was a super fun weekend. Our second tour is coming up in 3 weeks and registration is now open. This will be a shorter and easier tour making it doable for those who have not yet done long distances. This will also be a supported tour, so if you can’t carry any or all of your gear on your bike, it will be transported for you in the SAG (support and gear) vehicle.

Saturday’s ride begins in Cobourg and takes us to Presqu’ile Provincial Park. we have some campsites reserved. Each site allows up to 3 tents and 6 people, and the spots are very limited so reserve now! Spots will be allocated on a first come first served basis. If you want to do the tour but do not want to camp and prefer a B&B or motel, you are responsible for making your own reservation, and we hope that you’ll join us in the evening for some camp fire socializing.

Water and snacks are provided in the SAG vehicle both days. Also included in the cost is pizza dinner Saturday evening, camp fire snacks, and camping. Not included is lunch either day, or breakfast Sunday morning.

After breakfast in Brighton on Sunday, the group heads back home.

Dates: August 8th and 9th
Distance: 50km each day (you have all day to get there!)
Cost: $43
Registration: required by emailing: nhcycling2010@gmail.com  lickity split!

Sunday July 19th: Morning Ride from Grafton, 9am

Thursday July 16, Level 4 Evening Ride

We’re going to do the intended 50k ride that had been planned for last week, starting in Cobourg. We bike over to Port Hope and do the Glorious Ganaraska Route.

The Level 4 Reminder Note: Road bikes are required and you must be equipped to change a flat should it happen. The group may stay together if appropriate, but could potentially break off into groups according to ability. It will be a fast but fun ride, which is the standard for Level 4. Read about the NHCC Ride Standards here.

Ride Coordinator: George Hussey
Start location: Canadian Tire parking lot, west end
Route map: Glorious Ganaraska (Northumberland Tourism)

Thursday July 16th: Level 3/4 Morning Ride from Grafton

**Don’t forget that the new July/Agust start time for mornings is 9:00am**

Thursday morning rides typically have a small group of people and with Summer here many are on vacation, so it’s important that if you plan to ride that you leave a comment so others will know there will be someone to ride with! Also, please keep in mind that the Thursday morning rides are self-guided, so there may or may not be a ride leader/coordinator present.

**75km Route: you’ll start earlier than everyone else, riding from Cobourg to the start point in Grafton. (That will mean an 8:20 start time at Donegan Park for the 75km route.)

Start location: Grafton Arena on Hwy 2 (Donegan Park for the 75k group)
