Sunday July 9: Mixed Levels Ride from Port Hope

It’s forecasting 26C and sunshine. All the weird weather seems to have passed! There’s a lot of construction happening on roads in Hope Township so we’ll take the Waterfront Trail westbound along the lakeshore. It’s a nice and easy route that allows for any distance you wish by just turning around and coming back to the start any time you wish. And no route map required! Note the new start time of 9:00am.

There is no designated ride leader for Sunday. Although it’s a group ride, it’s expected that smaller groups will break off according to pace and distance. It’s recommended that prior to the start you discuss your intentions with others so that nobody rides alone. In fact, if you leave a comment here letting others know your plans regarding distance and pace it will be helpful for others!

Start time: 9:00am
Start location: King’s Field (baseball field) in Port Hope (Victoria St. just south of the lights at Toronto Rd. and Ridout St.)

Saturday July 9, Level 2+, 37 km

This ride will start at Donegan Park. We will east on Highway #2 to Gully Rd. where we will head into the hills of Northumberland.  Once we reach Community Centre road it will be mostly down hill all the way to Cobourg.
This ride is rated as a L2+. We will stop from time to time for water breaks but it will not be as often as a L2 ride.

A few reminders: Helmets are mandatory, and please bring your membership card with you. We’re still getting to know everyone!

Start time: 9:00 am
Start location: Donegan Park
Route Map: All Down Hill from Here

Thursday July 7: Level 4, hilly ride!

Tuesday, July 5th: Level 2 ride

NHCC Club activities for July

It’s summer vacation time! Well, at least for some lucky folks. We just wanted to take a moment and let y’all know what to expect for month of July so that you can mark your calendars and start planning. The regular evening rides will continue as they always have, and so will Sunday morning rides. We do have the following for you to note:

  • Morning start time for July and August: To beat the heat, we begin any morning rides at 9:00am.
  • July 17th: Hellacious Hilly 100km ride will be happening for those who are looking for something a little more challenging than the Presqu’ile 100.
  • July 20th: The monthly All Levels Ride will take place, starting and stopping at Franks Pasta and Grill in Cobourg. 6:30 for the ride and 8:00 for the wings, beer and hullabaloo portion that follows afterward.

Thursday June 30: Level 4 Ride to Harwood

The forecast shows a high of 25°C and lots of sunshine! What better way to fill your evening than with a ride to Harwood for ice-cream! Or, if that’s not your style, you could just re-load water bottles and zip back. In any case, it’s about 55k and a 6:00 start time. Please note that there is no designated ride leader for this one (cuz she’s outta town, cycling from Ottawa to Montreal!) so the group will need to just self-lead.

Start time: 6:00pm
Start location: The arena on Furnace St.
Route Map: Printable 55k map/cue sheet or link to it on Ride with GPS

Since there’s no ride leader, do leave a comment to let others know you plan to ride. It’s nice for each other to be able to anticipate how big the group might be.

Volunteers needed for Cycling Video shoot

Northumberland Tourism is doing a little video shoot and need some volunteers to be cycling stars in their video. It’s your chance at fame!

They are looking for models to cycle in three different locations (Port Hope, Rice Lake, and Grafton areas). They would like both male and females, of varying ages.

If you are interested and available sometime in July or early August and can help out with this, please contact the production coordinator Angela Johnson who will make arrangements with you.
