Looking for route and ride leader for Sunday

Okay, so here’s the deal. We want to open up this Sunday to suggestions. Is there’s anyone out there wanting to take the lead on this coming Sunday and propose a route and lead the ride? It’s your chance to do it your way, and get a ride going! Let’s get the discussion started. Use the comment feature to suggest a route option. Even if we have to drive a little bit out of town, people might like that too. Be creative!

NHCC Fall Jersey orders!

NHCC Club jerseysWe’re thinking about placing another jersey order if there are enough people interested. We’re hoping to get them in stock by the end of September for the cooler cycling weather! The short-sleeve jersey is the standard jersey you see on most of the folks on our rides. The long-sleeve version is really thick and warm & cozy, perfect for colder weather!

Thursday August 11: Rollin on up to Millbrook!

We’re heading on up to Millbrook again. The pavement is excellent, there’s some nice shady areas. It’s generally a fairly easy route and you’ll see alpacas along the way! They are actually quite amusing and last time prompted us into a short roadside viewing. No route map required because it’s so straightforward. By the way, if you are a relatively strong Level 3 rider, you’d be able to handle this one, so come on out and give it a try!

Start time: 6:30pm
Ride Leader: Anita Macklin
Start location: Hope Township Office parking lot

Wed. August 10 – 38 km. Level 3

This week we will be riding a relatively flat but fast route. We will follow the Waterfront Trail to Wicklow and back.

Start Time:  6:30 pm
Ride Leader: Mike Mclellan
Start Location: Donnagan Park

Tues Aug 9th Level 2 & 2+ Cornish Hollow

We will head up to the shade of the tree tunnels of Cornish Hollow to get away from the heat. Geoffrey will lead a 21 k level 2 ride. If there is interest and someone to lead he has a level 2+/3 route mapped out. Please chime in with  a comment letting us know what you are interested in, level 2 or 2+. Hopefully a rabbit will come out of the bushes to lead the level 2+ and a sweep may chime in. Remember your lights and water. We will be taking breaks as needed and no one is left behind.

Start Time:  18:30 (6:30 pm)

Ride Leader: Geoffrey Honey

Start Location: Cobourg Memorial Arena parking lot Furnace St.

Route Map: Provided to Ride leaders. Level 2 Cornish Hollow, Ferguson, Rose Leech, Racetrack, Division, Oliver’s lane.

Level 2+ As Level 2 to Racetrack, Harwood, Clapperton, 45, Meyers, Community Center, Maplewood, Naigle, Greer, Elgin, D’arcy, University, to Ball and Furnace

Monday, August 8th: Level 2 ride

The ride starts in Baltimore this week with Dale leading and Maria sweeping. The days are getting noticeably shorter so make sure you have lights on your bike!
Date: Monday, August 8th
Time: 6:30
Meeting Location: Baltimore Community Centre (in front)
Ride Leader: Dale Pierce
Level: 1
Distance 15km

Thursday August 4: Level 4 ride to Millbrook

We’re going to attempt the ride to Millbrook and back, hoping that the roadwork north of County Rd. 9 has been completed. It’s a nice route all the way up to Millbrook on County Rd. 10 and coming back, with some nice rolly-type hills. The route should be about 45k approximately (route map to follow), and we’ll start at the Township of Hope offices on County Rd. 10.

Start time: 6:30pm
Ride Leader: Anita Macklin
Start location: Hope Township Office parking lot
Route map: to come

Sunday, August 7th: Wolfe Island ride

This Sunday we’re off to Wolfe Island, an area highly recommended for cycling due to relatively few cars on the roads. The terrain should be fairly flat and those wanting to get in a few kilometers can probably get in at least 70km if you ride to the east and back as well as south and back.  Because it’s an out and back ride on the same roads, you can turn back any time and make what you want of the ride so it can be suitable for all levels. There won’t be designated ride leaders so those wishing to do the same level should stay together as a group.

There are opportunities to purchase some food at the convenience store or at the one or two restaurants in Marysville, (and Slickers ice cream is sold in town!), but the rest of the island doesn’t provide that chance. Either plan on buying something in Marysville, and/or bring fluids, snacks, and lunch with you. Leigh Thompson will be driving onto the island and will have a cooler with her if you wish to have her transport something for you.

We’re planning on catching the 10:30 ferry so make sure you allow time to park, get your stuff together, and be ready to board by then. There is some free parking available, as well as paid parking so be prepared to pay, just in case! The ferry is free and takes 20 minutes to cross.

Because this ride involves driving to Kingston, please let us know if you are planning to come. Maybe riders can arrange car pooling amongst yourselves, and we’d like to make sure we don’t miss anyone who wants to be part of the day. It’s also helpful if you indicate the distance you’re interested in.

Date: Sunday, August 7th

Time: please get to the parking lot around 10:00, be ready to catch the 10:30 ferry

Level: suitable for all

Meeting Location: near the dock of the ferry to Wolfe Island

Wednesday, August 3rd; L3 – 30km Dale Rd.

This route was originally developed by Roberto for Level 2. I have added a couple of more hills to make it a Level 3 route. The ride will start at the parkette on Carlisle street (Westwood Park).

A few reminders: Helmets are mandatory, and please bring your membership card with you. We’re still getting to know everyone!

Start time: 6:30 am
Start location: Westwood Park (Carlisle St., just east of Ewing)
Route Map: 30 km Dale Rd.
Difficulty: Level 3
Ride Leader: Mike McLellan
