Tues Sept 20 Level 2 ride 6pm

Pam will be leading the Level 2 ride out west from the top of Port Hope, an amazingly scenic route. She says:”for my ride on Tuesday, I’d like to meet at King’s Field at the south-west corner (almost) of Victoria and Ridout at the west end of Port Hope. From there, we will head west along Lakeshore Rd. Depending on who shows up, we will either do an out-and-back or a loop north on Willow Beach Rd to the 4th line, east again and back down Choate Rd and Victoria St.”

Geoffrey adds: Remember we will need our lights. Also, remember that “Car Back!” really means “Single file to the right!” To keep us all safe when we are stopped and taking a break, please make sure you are off the pavement and on the shoulder. That way we are safe and not blocking traffic.

Enjoy this glorious riding weather! Chime in with comments so we know who is coming.

Ride Leader:  Pam Tate

Start Time: 6pm (18:00)

Start Location: King’s Field (Southwest corner of Victoria & Ridout) Port Hope

Monday, September 19th: Level 1 (with a plus) ride

We’ll take a tour of the Grafton area this week on a route Mike S. has created for us. It is mostly flat but there are some ascents that we don’t normally do in Level 1, thus the plus designation. It’s getting dark awfully early so make sure you have your lights!
Our club’s annual meeting will be held at the Best Western on Wednesday, November 9th. The cost is $30 and if you’d like to save your spot, you can bring your money when you show up for the ride. Next week will be the last evening ride so you’ll have to track us down after that! There will be a post with more details for the social, dinner, and meeting coming soon.
Date: Monday, September 19th
Time: 6:00
Meeting Location: parking lot at St. Mary’s School, Station Road, Grafton
Ride Leader: Dennis Benson

Sunday September 18: Mixed Levels Ride, 38km

For this ride, Roberto will lead the way on one of the Club’s favourite routes, “It’s all Downhill from here”. The route is 38km long, but if you want to take advantage of some lovely September riding and to longer, feel free to use the comments feature here to discuss with others.

Start time: 9:00am
Start location: Donegan Park, Cobourg
Route: “It’s all downhill from here” route map

Saturday, October 22nd: Milbrook ride, food, ghost walk

We probably won’t be doing regular rides in October, but that doesn’t mean that we aren’t going to try to get out! Cross your fingers for a gorgeous day Saturday, October 22nd because we want to go for a ride in the Milbrook area followed by a visit to the Pastry Peddlar ( a unique bike shop and restaurant owned by a cyclist) for a bite to eat, then kill a little time before participating in “A Shadow Walk of Milbrook”, put on by the 4th Line Theatre. Whew, that sounds like a busy but fun day!

“A Shadow Walk of Milbrook” weaves a chilling and hilarious tale as we are led through the streets and pathways of Milbrook to explore the paranormal and local stories of ghosts and demons. That should get us ready for Hallowe’en! (boo!).  Tickets are $20, available at: www.4thlinetheatre.on.ca or 705 932 4445 or 800 814 0055.

Join us for any or all of the activities, but if you want to go on the ghost walk it’s recommended that you purchase your ticket as soon as possible before they sell out. Some dates for the walk are already 50% sold out.

The Pastry Peddlar may close at 5:00 that day but they haven’t actually decided yet and may stay open until 6:00. We’re hoping a healthy number for a reservation will help persuade them to do so which would tie in nicely with the walk starting at 7:00. A ride time hasn’t been established yet as we are still working out these details.

So, although this is still a ways off, if you do get a ticket and would like to go for dinner, please comment so we can think about making that reservation!

Saturday, September 24th: ride and potluck

Last year Richard and Leigh Thompson hosted an all levels ride from their home in Hastings followed by a potluck lunch. They have kindly offered to do so again this fall, and those who were fortunate to previously attend can attest that it was a great time!

Richard has created a 50km ride with a possible 38km option (depending on road conditions), and for those wishing to do a shorter, flatter ride, the Lang Hastings Trail is just meters away from their home. We’ll all try to ride for about the same amount of time and meet for the delicious potluck. Bring a chair, your beverage of choice, potluck contribution, as well as the usual bike stuff. Guests are welcome. Please let us know if you plan to attend, and we’ll send you the address.

Date: Saturday, September 24th

Time: 10:00 (ride start, so please get there earlier to drop off your food and get ready to ride). Lunch probably by 1:00

Place: Richard and Leigh Thompson’s home, Hastings

Level: suitable for all levels

Thursday Sept. 15: Level 4 Ride

Another mystery route…we’ll just decide as a group among those who are at the start. We’ll keep it to 75 minutes or less, but nevertheless make sure you have lights on the front and back of your bike. The sun sets at 7:21pm so lights are mandatory as of 6:51pm.

Start time: 6:00pm
Ride Leader: Anita Macklin
Start location: Westwood Park (Carlisle St.)
Route: Mystery route to be determined

So, let me know you plan to ride. Leave a comment. It’s helpful for me to know how many will be there.

Tues Sept13 Level 2 & 2+ ride 6pm

We will combine the best of a couple of favourite rides with this nearing the end of season 30k (29.9k) loop that starts at Westwood/Carlisle Park, goes up Theatre across Danforth and then up to the Cornish Hollow route. Geoffrey will be leading a TRUE Level 2 pace of 15-19kpm average. We will be going slow and steady to appreciate the view and prevent exhaustion. If there are some willing speed jackrabbits could joyfully face leading a 2+/3 faster group, I will have a map on hand. (I’m hoping my novice attempt at maplinking below works too!) Please remember to bring water and lights and have your tires pumped to maximum pressure so you are not fighting the bike on the hills.

Start time: 18:00 (6pm)

Ride Leader:Geoffrey Honey

Start Location: Westwood/Carlisle Park Parking Lot

Monday, September 12th: Level 1 ride

We’re welcoming a few special guest riders this week. Some folks in Belleville have been watching what we’re doing with our club, like what they see, and want to learn more. Come ride and show them what makes us the great club that we are! Bring your lights.
Date: Monday, September 12th
Time: 6:00
Meeting Location: parking lot behind the Dutch Oven
Level of Difficulty: 1
Ride Leader: Maria Siemiaszko
