Friday Floater Ride: August 31

This Friday is the last day of August! Can you believe it? This week’s floater ride will be led by Randy and Anita, at 10am and doing a loop starting at Kings Field in Port Hope. They’ll take people to Newcastle and back in a loop (not an out-and-back). Level 3 pace. 50-65km total distance. Please leave a comment to let them know you plan to ride so they can prepare.

Start time: 10am

Level 4 Rides: August 28 and 30th

Tuesday August 28: Level 4 (35k)

Weather diverted us from doing this one last week, so we’ll do it this Tuesday. Time to climb some hills! That includes the Jamieson Twins. But hey, it’s late in the season, so you are strong! We have 114 minutes of daylight, so we’re going for some speed too! And, this one doesn’t include Bickle Hill so it’s all good.
Start time: 6:00

Friday Floater Ride: August 24, 10am

This week’s Floater Ride is going to be about 65km, and we’ll be doing a modified version of the Peterborough Classic Route 3a “Hills, Views and Pastries”. We will start at Squirrel Creek Conservation area. Route map will be posted here by Thursday. This route claims to have some hills to add a little challenge, so we’ll call this one a Level 3+. We will ride together as a group however, and we won’t drop anyone. See you there!

This is a really nice route with rolling hills and some fun & fast downhill. If you are a fairly strong Level 3 rider you’ll likely be able to do this! We’ll make a brief stop in Harwood to re-load water bottles. It’s a great 37km route and the hills won’t kill you!

Friday Floater Ride: August 10

Short notice (we do apologize), but indeed there will be a Friday Floater ride tomorrow. We are going to meet at the Wicklow Beach Boat Launch parking lot and proceed toward Presqu’ile Park where we can tour around, get some ice cream and then come back. Or, if preferred we can decide to head to Lola’s in Brighton instead after Presqu’ile for a coffee and yummy treat. We can discuss tomorrow. This will be a flat-ish, easy-ish ride with the distance totalling about 55k.

Start time: 10am
Ride Leader: Anita Macklin
Start location: Wicklow Beach Boat Launch

Labour Day Sunday: Ride and Really Big Potluck (maybe a Bonfire)

Might as well go Big! And with that, Randy and Anita are inviting ALL members (Levels 1, 2, 3, and 4) of both the NHCC and the Ganaraska Freewheelers for a Ride and Really Big Potluck on Sunday September 2.  (Rain date will be the following day, Monday).  If there is no fire ban in effect we’ll get the ole Bonfire burning. We’ll ride at 4:00pm and there will be distance options for everyone. We’ll ride an out-and-back route so that everyone finishes at the same time.

Route map right here! Click here.

Here’s what you need to bring:

  • A shareable dish of some sort (don’t forget serving spoon etc.), and in true potluck style we aren’t organizing who-brings-what. Please make sure it’s ready-to-eat. We will have a number of power outlets if you need to plug in a slow cooker.
  • Bring your favourite beverage, plates and utensils
  • Bring a lawn chair

We’ll set up some tables outside and there are plenty of shady spots in the yard to sit and be social. If you can’t make it for the ride portion but want to partake in the Potluck you are welcome to do so. Feel free to bring your significant other.  If you are hesitating because you didn’t ride much and feel a little shy, don’t be, we’d love to have you there for some or all of the planned activities!

Ride time: 4:00pm
Potluck time: 6:00pm

RSVP: Please send us (Randy and Anita) a quick email nhcycling2010@gmail.com or simply leave a comment to let us know you’ll be there so we can plan a little.
