Pre-announcing: 100km Club Ride next weekend

Just so you can start thinking about it, we are planning a 100km ride next weekend, marking the end of the “official” riding season before switching to off-season mode. It will be your chance to do your first ever 100k, (or your hundredth!) and we’ll choose a route that’s easy-ish for you! There will also be a 50km option, with Colborne the start point for either distance. It will be either Saturday or Sunday, depending on which is better in the forecast. More information will be posted mid-week.

Sunday ride! Sept 22

Just in case the rain holds off till afternoon we’ll plan a Sunday Ride starting from Golden Beach Resort. The route will be posted sometime tomorrow, but expect something around 40k and at a touristy type pace (that means Level 3)  if you are interested in getting a bite to eat afterward at Golden Beach, bring a few $$  Let is know if you plan to ride! It helps with planning

Start Time: 10:00am
Ride Leader: Randy & Anita

Start Location: Golden Beach Resort on Rice Lake, 7100 Northumberland County Rd 18, Roseneath

Level 4 Rides: Sept. 17 and 19

IMPORTANT—New start time! The days are shorter than ever so we’ll start at 5:30 in order to allow a little more time to squeeze a decent ride in.

Level 4: Tuesday Sept. 17 (34km)

Nice fast, rolly route along Danforth Rd. Short & sweet!

Level 4: Thursday Sept. 19 (44km)

This is a nice route, without crazy elevations (315m over 44k). Starting in Grafton at the arena, we will head out to Colborne and up to Telephone Rd. We’ll leave promptly and ride swiftly to get back by sunset! You’ll need lights, both front and back for this one!
Ride Leader: Anita Macklin

Sunset: 7:15pm
Start location: Grafton Arena on Hwy 2

Level 4 Rides: Sept. 10 and 12

Level 4: Tuesday Sept. 10

This Tuesday night is self-navigated but simple. Meet at the Industrial Park on Wilmott St. for 6:00 and follow the Waterfront Trail eastbound for 45 minutes then return. It’s an opportunity to give it all you got and get some speed going (or not).

Start time: 6:00pm
Sunset: 7:31pm
Route: no map required, take Waterfront Trail Eastbound
Start location: Industrial Park on Wilmott St.

Level 4: Thursday Sept. 12

We have lost 13 minutes of daylight in just one week! We have exactly one hour and 27 minutes to ride! Enough to squeeze in the same route as last Thursday except this time we will do it in reverse just to be a little different. See how our time and speed compares to the other direction!

Ride Leader: To be determined (any volunteers?)
Start time: 6:00pm
Sunset: 7:27 pm
Route map:  (35km) “Kennedy, Beavermeadow, Harwood Rd. (reversed)” link to map on Ride with GPS
Elevation: 332m

Level 4 Rides: Sept 3 and 5

Level 4: Tuesday Sept. 3

There’s no ride leader for Tuesday night so the ride will be self-navigated. Keeping it simple—meet at Kings Field in Port Hope and head westbound on the Waterfront Trail for 40 minutes and return. That’s makes for 80 minutes of riding at the speed you like!

Start time: 6:00pm
Sunset: 7:44pm
Route: no map required, take Waterfront Trail West
Start location: Kings Field, Port Hope (Victoria St.)

Level 4: Thursday Sept. 5

We are losing daylight fast! Therefore, the routes are getting shorter. With only 332m of elevation, this 35km route will be one of the faster ones. (Well…faster than climbing Bickle Hill!)

Ride Leader: Anita Macklin
Start time: 6:00pm
Sunset: 7:40 pm
Route map:  (35km) “Kennedy, Beavermeadow, Harwood Rd.” link to map on Ride with GPS

Ride Leader: Anita Macklin
Start time: 6:00
Sunset: 8:09pm
Route: 45km “Bishop Gundulph’s Folly” link on Ride With GPS
Start location: King’s Field (Ball Park on Victoria St South) East End Port Hope

Wednesday August 14: Levels 3 and 4 Rides

IMPORTANT: Please note the new start time of 6:00pm

Level 3 Group Ride: We are going to take a counterclockwise route around Cobourg this time, and in the latter half, while flying down Burnham St., at the 32km mark (Kennedy Rd) you can make a decision about whether or not you want to tackle Bickle Hill (it only adds a half km of distance!).  If so, turn off at Kennedy. If not, you just continue down down Burnham reconnect with the others at Dale and Theatre Rd.

Level 4: This week’s Level 4 follows the same route as Level 3 For the first 32km point then it diverts up Kennedy in order to take in Bickle Hill Rd. This is the group where you can set whatever pace you like! It’s likely that the group will stay together, but breaking into smaller units according to pace preference is certainly an option. And if it’s just too fast, you can simply slow down and wait for the Level 3 Group Ride to catch up.

Ride Leaders: Mike Collins (Level 3),  Self-navigated (Level 4)
Start time: 6:00pm
Sunset: 8:17pm
Route map (Level 3):

Elevation: 384m (L3), 431m (L4)
Start location: Westwood Parkette on Carlisle St., just east of Ewing

Level 3 Group Ride: Monday August 11

It’s going to be a fairly long route, but with a 6:00 start time we should finish it before the sun sets. Do remember to have your lights on your bikes though, the sun sets at 8:20pm, giving us 2 hours and 20 minutes to complete the ride. The elevation for this route is not insane, (not flat either, but hey….we do the best we can!), so it should be a nice easy go.

Start time: 6:00
Sunset: 8:20pm
Elevation:  357m
