Level 2 Rides: Tues July 10 & Thurs July 12

Tues July 10, Level 2 Ride

The average speed is inching up to 17 to 18 kph for July. Leave comments in the comment section if you can sweep and to let us know you plan to ride.

Pam is taking us west of Port Hope to view the breathtaking Waterfront Trail. Her description: “We will meet at King’s Field in Port Hope and go out along Lakeshore Rd as usual. We’ll be going a bit faster – but not much, don’t worry – and stops will be a bit shorter. Everyone is getting stronger so we’re also going to go a bit farther this time. No one will be left behind and we are going to have a blast now that the heat has lifted. Bring water, a smile and a sense of adventure.”

Start Time: 6:30 pm
Ride Leader: Pam Tate
Start Location: King’s Field, Victoria St. Port Hope.

Thurs July 12, Level 2 Ride

Let’s try again to do the Plainville to Bewdley via Cavan route and see if the weather lets us this time! Once again:

Geoffrey will start at Plainville Public School up in the north of the County so we can take in the country air, some lovely shaded country roads and a view of Rice Lake from Bewdley. Bring some pocket money in case of a ‘food emergency’ like the chip truck on Burnham N and Cty 9 or something in Bewdley. We will head south on Burnham N, turn right along Cavan to Bewdley, loop around Bewdley and head back the way we came. A flatish route of 22 klms so that we can up our rate to the new 17-18 average Kilometers per hour for this month.

Start Time: 6:30 pm
Ride Leader: Geoffrey Honey
Start Location: Plainville Public School Parking Lot, 4618 Burnham St N, Gore’s Landing  K0K 2E0

Level 1 Rides: Monday, July 9th and Wednesday, July 11th (with a Level 1+ option)

Sunday July 8th Century Ride- Cobourg to Presquille Return

This Sunday, we’ll head out from town and go east along Lakeshore making the Lighthouse at Presquille our turnaround point.

We’re expecting the pace to be a level 3/4 but if you’re interested in making this a shorter ride or slower pace ride, please comment below. Dont’t be shy! Others might jump if you comment.

This is not a supported ride, so please come prepared for the distance with snacks, lots of water and some bucks for refueling along the way.

Ride leader: Raff Melito
Start time: 8:30 am
Start location: Cobourg Memorial Arena and Rec Centre, 206 Furnace Street

Special Note: If this is a distance you’re interested in completing but haven’t tried yet, come out and join us. This is the most flat route in the area and a great way to meet that goal of your first 100k.

Every year we see club members compete their first century ride and this achievement is celebrated at the Fall AGM. This Sunday, Carson Jones, a new club member, and new rider is aiming to complete his first century ride.

There may be others who have progressed through the ride levels like Carson who may be ready to try this memorable cycling milestone. We hope to see you.

Level 2 Rides: Tues. July 3 and Thurs. July 5

Tues. July 3, Level 2 Ride

Welcome to July and the next step up in our average speed of 17 – 18 kph.

Tonight David Hutzel will be leading us starting at St Mary school parking lot in Grafton. We’ll head down Purdy Rd through the east subdivision then past the old canning factory back to Station Rd and then south to Chub Beach. We’ll ride to the dead end of Chub Beach Rd turn around and head back to Lakeshore. Turning right we’ll stay on Lakeshore continuing to the small community of Lakeport. A little dipsy doodle in Lakeport then head back. If you had your fingers crossed hoping for hills, sorry to disappoint you, as this ride is mainly flat but with our increase in average speed and lack of hills we’ll increase our distance to @28k.

The forecast is for HEAT so it is vitally important to not only stay hydrated on our ride but also to hydrate throughout the day prior. Hint: put a water bottle in the freezer overnight, it will thaw very quickly in this weather.
