Fellow NHCC members: Your support is needed for Bike Week

In case you haven’t heard already, the Second Annual Bike Week takes place from May 26th to June 1st. To raise awareness, a Bikeathon with stationary bikes on loan from the Y, is planned as a prelude event in front of Victoria Hall on Thursday May 24t

A stationary bike will be allotted to each of Cobourg’s three bike clubs in the hopes that each can provide bodies to keep those pedals turning for 12 hours: 8am to 8pm. Rumour has it that the Cobourg Cycling Club has booked almost enough riders to fill the time on their bike, so let’s fill up ours and get some NHCC representation going on!

Sustainable Cobourg’s Bicycle Action Committee organizes Bike Week and advocates for cycling in the Town of Cobourg. For those who don’t know, the NHCC’s roots originate from Sustainable Cobourg where many of our members are active supporters.

We’ve got 12 hours to fill, 63 members, 1 bike to pedal. The math tells me that we can do it. Got 15 minutes, or 30? or even 60? Can you represent the NHCC by pedalling that bike sometime between 8am and 8pm? Comment below, mention a time, and it’s yours! All members welcome.

UPDATE: Here is a link with the list of volunteers and their time slots

  1. I’m in! I don’t know what time but I will fill in where I’m needed. Even if I have to spell off and back on. A little rest some protein and I’m good to go again. Lets go team!

  2. I work until 2:30, but am free to pedal after that!! It will be fun, i can round up a couple of others if need be:))

  3. Nice math.!!!
I plan to ride in this Bikeathon.I will also be riding my tandem to Vic hall a 9 am. Anyone need a lift ? I can pilot my new Bike Week service Tandem taxi. I will be picking up a new helmet for my customers to wear.I will be offering a free scenic Cobourg tour for anyone buying six Bike Week raffle tickets.

  4. I can do some pedaling when needed. Are we going to have a club ride that morning? If so, I’ll take a time slot after that, otherwise it doesn’t matter to me.

  5. I can plan on being there for a couple of hours in the morning, say between 10 and noon to fill in where necessary. But for heaven’s sake don’t put me in for the whole two hours or I’ll be on the front page of the newspaper for expiring right there in front of town hall. So embarassing…

    • Ha ha! You’re not going to expire right there! You’re a riding machine! I’ve got you in for 11-11:30 at the moment (but things may switch around a little as more people volunteer)

  6. Just two half hour time slots to fill and we’re complete! And by the way, even if our time slots get filled, there will be other stationary bikes there too that may have availability at any given time, so we could have more than one person pedalling at a time. Besides, the more NHCC jerseys people see, the better!
