Correction to Thursday’s Ride
Correction: The start time for Thursday’s ride to Bewdley and Back was incorrect and should read 6:00pm
May is over…June, here we come!
It’s been a great month of May and a huge success for the NHCC. Rides have been well-attended, the Safety Workshop had about 25-30 people attend and it’s fabulous to see so many new ride leaders this year. In our first 30 days of the official 2016 season we posted no less than 29 rides! We can also safely say we are about 110 members strong! June will be another busy month for the NHCC. All evening rides will continue to start at the regular time of 6:00pm and morning rides at 10:00am until July/August when the times switch to summer start times.
In addition to our regular scheduled rides, we have the following for June (more information will follow as the dates approach):
Wednesday June 15: All Levels Ride and Beer on the Patio at The Cat and Fiddle, Cobourg
Sunday June 19: Sharon Ingle Memorial Ride (100km, donations will be taken for local charity)
June 24-26th: Adolphustown Overnight Cycle Tour
A couple of reminders to keep in mind:
- Guest riders are welcome on any Club ride as long as they bring a signed waiver and the $5 guest fee.
- Helmets are essential. No helmet, no ride.
See you all on the road!
Thursday June 2, Level 4 ride to Bewdley
If you’re speedy you can cover 59km! Or, you can shorten it a little and make it just 44km. The choice is yours. Sunset isn’t until 8:48pm you have almost three hours to do the distance. At the moment it looks like a 60% chance of rain, but let’s see if that really transpires. It’s also forecast to be just 21C so it won’t be super warm either.
Time: 6:00pm
Level of Difficulty: Level 4
Start Location: the arena on Furnace Street
Ride Leader: Anita Macklin
Route Maps:
(59km): Printable route map here or link to it on Ride with GPS
(44k): Printable route map here or link to it on Ride with GPS
So, you gonna ride? If so, leave a comment and let us know which distance you lean toward. Maybe we can do some mental pre-planning.
Wednesday June 1: Level 3 ride
Mike is back in action and will be leading the Level 3 ride this Wednesday. The group will start at the Arena on Furnace St. and head out via Cornish Hollow and Baltimore then back via Nagle. No route map this time….just stick together in a group!
Ride Leader: Mike McLellan
Start location: Cobourg Memorial Arena on Furnace St.
Start time: 6:00pm
Tuesday May 31: Level 2 ride from Port Hope
We’ve got a new start location for this week’s level 2 ride that avoids having to climb up the big hill that is Port Hope. Rich Ross will lead from Kings Field at the west end of Port Hope. It’ll be a nice and simple out-and-back route along the Lakeshore which will hopefully give some nice cool relief to this hot weather we’ve been experiencing. We anticipate a total of about 25km.
Ride Leader: Rich Ross
Start time: 6:00pm
Start location: King’s Field (baseball field) in Port Hope (Victoria St. just south of the lights at Toronto Rd. and Ridout St.)
Monday, May 30th: Level 1 ride
This week we’ll meet at the Cycle Transitions parking lot, which on the west side of the building. (Cycle Transitions is across D’Arcy Street from the Cobourg Community Centre). We’ll learn how to handle the roundabouts and some railway tracks! It’s pretty warm out there these days so make sure you bring along some fluids to keep hydrated.
Ride Leader: Maria Siemiaszko
Time: 6:00
Meeting Location: Cycle Transitions, 739 D’arcy Street
Level: 1
Sunday, May 29th: All Levels Ride
This Sunday morning Roberto is organizing an all levels ride which will head east along the Waterfront Trail as far as each rider would like to go before they turn back. If anyone wants to do a century they can head to the lighthouse in Presqu’ile – or not! Because it’s the Waterfront Trail, there’s no map for this ride, and it’s an out an back ride so you may encounter other riders on your way back. If you leave a comment if you are coming, and can indicate the level and distance you’re hoping for, it often encourages others who would like to come out but don’t know whether they’ll have someone to ride with. After all, most of us join a club to ride with others! As it’s an all levels Sunday ride, there won’t be leaders for each group.
Date: Sunday, May 29th
Time: 10:00
Meeting Location: Donegan Park
Levels: all
Ride Organizer: Roberto
Thursday May 26: Level 4 Ride
This Thursday Debbie Robertson will happily lead the 48km route starting from Port Hope Town Hall, out to lovely Hope Township. Since the days are quite long now we can afford to cover almost 50k before sunset! There are some hills, (we cannot lie) but it’s a great route and not too crazy. Nothing like last week!
Start time: 6:00pm (in Port Hope)
Ride Leader: Debbie Robertson
Start location: Port Hope Town Hall parking lot
Route map: Printable route map here, or link to it on Ride with GPS.
Please comment below and let Debbie know you are riding so she can know how many to expect.
Wednesday, May 25th: afternoon ride
I have a little time between when I finish work at noon or so and the CanBike course being taught at Gummow at 3, so what better way to fill the time than a quick little ride? How about Cornish Hollow? The blossoms along the way should smell heavenly!
Date: Wednesday, May 25th
Time: 12:45
Meeting Location: arena on Furnace Street
Level of Difficulty: 2
Ride Leader: Maria Siemiaszko
Tuesday May 24th: Level 2 Ride from Westwood Park
The warm weather is finally here, and Tuesday is forecasting 26° and all sunshiny! This week Roberto will lead the group, starting at Westwood Park, out to Theatre Rd., across Telephone Rd., up to Danforth and back again down Ontario St. It promises to be a great ride, as the regular Level 2 participants will tell you! By the way, all club members are welcome to participate in any ride they wish as along as you stay within the ride expectations. So, for you speedy folks out there, why not come out and give Level 2 a try and see how nice it is to ride at a comfortable easy pace and meet new people.
Start time: 6:00pm
Ride Leader: Roberto Almeida
Start Location: Westwood Park
See you all on Tuesday!
