NHCC Mountain Biking Saturday June 8th

Mountain biking is on the sched for this coming Saturday again. It was a lot of fun the last time we went, and we’re hoping the weather will hold out again for this time around.

Times: 10:00am-12:00
NHCC members: FREE
Non-NHCC members: $5 per ride (plus the signing of a waiver)
Start location: The parking lot at Beagle Club Road. (about a mile and a half down the road off hwy#45)
Ride Leader: Vivian Vandenhazel

Bring your friends, bring your neighbour, bring your Aunt. It’s fun, and you’ll bring smiles to their faces (as long as they have mountain bikes, that is) Bike helmets are mandatory—no helmet, no ride!

No Thursday Ride (June 5th)

Due to the forecast which appears to be rain just about most of the day, there will be no Thursday morning ride. Next ride will be Saturday morning mountain biking and Sunday morning ride which will take place in Warkworth. See you all then!

Wednesday June 5th: Level 2 ride, 23km (with a small hill or two)

This ride starts at The Mill restaurant in Cobourg and we head out into the countryside. There’s a few hills in this ride but we are going to take it sloooooow and learn some strategies to get up those hills. Don’t let it scare you—that’s what those smaller chain rings are for! And remember, for every uphill there’s an equal and opposing downhill. The scenery outside of town is worth it.

Hey, all you level 3 and 4’s! Never underestimate the value of some easier riding. The ones who have come out to support others always report how much fun they have! You get to ride and talk.

Start time: 7:00pm
Start location: The Mill parking lot
Route map: 23km Cornish Hollow route map here
Sunset: 8:51 (Lights on bikes by 8:21)
Difficulty: Level 2 (+ a smidgen)
Ride Leader: Anita Macklin

Forecast says a high of 17° tomorrow and then it looks like rain for the rest of the week.

Community Bike Ride in Port Hope, Tues. June 4th: 6:30pm

The next Community Bike Ride is taking place in Port Hope and hosted by both the Northumberland Hills Cycling Club as well as Port Hope Bicycle. Just like we did in Cobourg, it’s an easy, family-oriented ride around Port Hope where members of the public are invited to join our club for a group ride around town. The public has been invited to accompany us at no cost (but they will be required to sign a guest waiver). Let’s show Port Hope how supportive our club is!

Time: 6:30pm
Start Location: Port Hope Town Hall

Community Bike Ride in Cobourg, 14km 6:30pm

It’s officially Bike Week! And Monday is the first of our Community Bike Rides, starting at the Bandshell in Cobourg. Our Club in cooperation with Sustainable Cobourg is hosting  an easy, family-oriented ride ride around town where members of the public are invited to join us for a safe, group ride around town along with a police officer escorting us. It would be great to have as many club members out as we can get, wearing our groovy jerseys or T-shirts. The public has been invited to accompany us at no cost (but they will be required to sign a guest waiver). Let’s show the whole town how much fun it is to ride their bicycles!

Time: 6:30pm
Start Location: Victoria Park Bandshell
Route map: Printable 14km route map here

Today’s ride, (Sunday June 2) is going to be moved to 1:00pm this afternoon due to the current weather conditions.

Sunday June 2: Shelter Valley ride (52 or 36km) 10am

Due to forecast thunderstorms, this ride has been re-scheduled to 1:00pm today

Choose your distance, either 52 or 36km. (Just like we did on Thursday). Both groups travel the same route most of the time but at different speeds, and the Level 4 group has a little more distance by turning left on Lyle St. in Grafton rather than right. Level 3 makes a right and heads down into Grafton, and then back. (No Shelter Valley Rd. for the Level 3).

Time: 10:00am (Level 4) and 10:05 (Level 3)
Start Location: Donegan Park
Route Map (Level 4) 52km: Printable route map here or Link to Ride with GPS
Route Map (Level 3) 36km: Printable route map here or Link to Ride with GPS
Ride Leaders: Anita Macklin (Level 4) and VOLUNTEER NEEDED for  (Level 3)

Let us know by commenting whether you’re planning to do the Level 3 or Level 4 ride. See you all tomorrow!

The NHCC and Bike Week

bikeweekposter-webBike Week is upon us and we just wanted to let you know where the NHCC fits into it all. The Stationary Bikeathon is this Saturday (we still need volunteers to fill a few time slots! The more NHCC’ers the better!) Click here to choose your time slot

We have three “Community Bike Rides” instead of our regular rides next week. These are short, easy rides that are geared toward being accessible to the entire community. Similar to a Level 1 Ride.

Monday Night (June 3): Community Bike Ride in Cobourg (Hosted by the NHCC)
Tuesday Night (June 4): Community Bike Ride in Port Hope (Hosted by the NHCC)
Sunday (June 9): Community Bike Ride in Warkworth (Hosted by the NHCC)

The Bike & Gear Swap is being held on Saturday June 8th. (Hosted by Cycle Transitions)

There’s also a Bike Raffle Draw for a brand new bicycle that you can view at Cycle Transitions. Single ticket $5, or 3 for $10. They’re available at any of the bike week events or at Port Hope Bicycle.

Come on out to some or all of the Bike Week events and show your support for Cycling in our Community!

Thursday May 30: “Shelter Valley” 52km or 36km

We’ve got two options to choose from: Essentially, both groups travel the same route most of the time, but the Level 4 group will go an extra 16k by making a left turn on Lyle St. in Grafton in order to head up toward Shelter Valley Rd., and the Level 3 group makes a right and heads down into Grafton, cutting out some distance and also some hills.

Ride Leaders: Vivian Vandenhazel (Level 4) and Bruce Bellaire (Level 3)

Please use the commenting feature to let the ride leaders know which group you want to ride with so that they can plan accordingly.

Tonight’s Port Hope Ride has been officially cancelled due to the undpredictable weather….yet again!
