Sunday, February 16th: Silent Lake Cross Country Ski
You are invited to join a group planning on skiing around Silent Lake in the provincial park by the same name this Sunday. The distance is 16.5km and the trail is moderate in difficulty with hills and turns. The trail is usually groomed and track set but due to equipment failure this has not been done since February 11th. However, park staff advise that it should still be in good shape and that quite a few skiers have been out on it this week.
There is a warm up hut with a wood stove at the 10km point where we can stop for lunch. Dress in layers, bring lots of fluids, lunch and snacks. There is a heated comfort station at the day use parking lot so you may want to also bring a change of clothes for the ride home.
The fee for a parking pass is $17 per vehicle. If you wish to carpool, please indicate this in your comments.
For those you want to come out but want to a shorter ski or to snowshoe, that’s certainly an option but you will need to organize your group.
Date: Sunday, February 16th
Start Time: 10:00
Meeting Location: parking lot of day use area, Silent Lake Provincial Park
Ski Organizer: Maria Siemiaszko
Distance: 16.5km
Guests are welcome but need to bring a signed waiver found near the upper right corner of our home page. This also applies to anyone who hasn’t purchased their 2020 membership yet.

The full snow moon is this weekend and we’ll enjoy it with a full moon ski on the Lang Hastings Trail. It is a flat, wide, and obstacle free trail which makes it suitable for a night ski. Because this is part of the Great Trail, other activities are allowed, including snowmobiling so dig out the Christmas lights and any other lights and reflective clothing/items you have to make ourselves visible. We may explore the trail to the east first so if you can’t make the 6:00 p.m. start time but want to join us, let us know in the comments and we can make sure we come back to pick you up at 7:00 p.m.
Date: Saturday, February 8th
Start Time: 6:00 (or you can join us at 7:00 if we know to come back for you!)
Meeting Location: parking lot just south of Banjos, Hastings
