Friday Floater ride: Are you participating?

Friday Floater: RSVP if you are coming. A number of folks have previous commitments tomorrow and so far there hasn’t been any comments that anyone is planning to participate in the Friday Floater Ride. Randy and Anita are asking that if you are planning to come, leave a comment to let us know….it’s a long way to go to the ride start to find nobody there!

Ride cancellation and re-scheduling notice

RIDE CANCELLATION NOTICE (Tuesday June 4th): Due to weather, all rides for tonight are cancelled.

IMPORTANT RIDE RE-SCHEDULING NOTICE (Level 3): To maximize the sunshiny forecast, we are moving the Level 3 ride to Thursday night (this week only) when the forecast actually shows some positive improvement. Both the Level 3 and the Level 4 group will head out together on Thursday night, leaving from the same start point at Cobourg Community Centre. Read the new details about route and start location here.

Passing of Michael Sonosky

Sadly, we lost a member of the NHCC earlier this week. Mike Sonosky passed away at Northumberland Hills Hospital on Sunday, June 2nd. He and his wife Sharon Anderson were members of the NHCC for the past several years. Mike was also an avid sailor.
Visitation will take place on Wednesday, June 5, 2018 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at MacCoubrey Funeral Home, Cobourg. A celebration of Mike’s life will take place on Thursday, June 6, 2019 from 2-4 p.m. with words of remembrance at 2 p.m. in the MacCoubrey Funeral Home Reception Centre. Condolences received at www.MacCoubrey.com.

Level 2 Rides: Tues June 4 & Thurs June 6

Tues June 4, Level 2 Ride: Cobourg Cornish Hollow

We will make steady climbing up into the most beautiful tree lined farm lanes just north of Cobourg and feel the wind in our hair as we whisk down Division St North. The weather forecast calls for cold in the single digits with the wind chill so wool under windproof material is highly recommended. FYI, I will be wearing a wool vest & socks, a buff and ear-grips, leather gloves and wind break jacket and pants. We will meet at the Mill so people may have a chance to socialize/warm up after the ride. Please chime in using the comment section if you plan to ride.

Start Time: 6:30
Ride Leader: Geoffrey Honey
Start Location: The Mill Parking Lot, NE corner of Elgin and Ontario Cobourg.

Thurs June 6, Level 2 Ride: Westwood Dale

We will start our training by attempting some moderate hill climbing (with lots of time to stop and catch breath and socialize). This route also has some beautiful farmland scenery and is well worth the effort. Please chime in using the comment button if you plan to ride.

Start Time: 6:30pm
Ride Leader: Geoffrey Honey
Start Location: Westwood Park parking lot, Cobourg Carlisle between Ewing and Westwood.
Route Map: Westwood Park, New Amherst, Hwy 2, Theatre Rd, Dale Road, Danforth, Ontario, Through town and back to Westwood Park

Level 1 Rides: June 3rd and 5th

Level 1: Monday June 3

Monday’s ride will start at the Diamond Head Industrial Park on Willmott St. and head west along County Road 2 and then north on Brook Road North St. As always, no-one will be left behind and there will be lots of water & rest breaks.

Start time: 6:30pm
Ride Leader: Dennis Benson
Start Location: Diamond Head Industrial Park, 210 Willmott St. Cobourg

Level 1: Wednesday June 5

Tonight’s ride will be in beautiful and historic east side of Port Hope. In keeping with our club motto, “Cycling for fun, fitness and friendship,” come on out and help make this happen with a relaxing level one ride.

Start time: 6:30pm
Ride Leader: Dennis Benson
Start Location: Beatrice Strong Public School (south parking lot) on 90 Roseglen Road North in Port Hope.

Level 3: Monday June 3 and Thursday June 6

Note: The second ride has been re-scheduled until Thursday this week, rather than Wednesday.

Days are getting longer! We have about 2 hours and 20 minutes of daylight for evening rides this week so we will try to extend the distance a little. We are riding from Port Hope on Monday night.  On Thursday night we will start with the Level 4 group and separate into two groups (Level 3 and 4) as the ride progresses.

What to expect on Level 3: This is a group ride. In the spirit of a group ride, all participants are expected to stay together without dropping any rider off the back, nor should any individual move ahead of the ride leader who will select and set a pace that fits within the Level 3 parameters.
