Pancake Ride! Sandy Flat Sugar Bush—Sunday, March 11, 2012

Its maple syrup time, and weather permitting, we’re going to ride from Baltimore to Sandy Flat Sugar Bush, eat some pancakes then pedal home. The route is approximately 60km—but you can cut that distance in half by starting in Centreton at the library if preferred. If weather makes the cycling impossible, it’s their Maple Syrup Festival, so we’re still going to meet at the sugar shack for Pancakes even if it means arriving by car!

Photos from the Sunny February ride (Feb 23)

Five folks took advantage of the awesome weather and showed up to ride. We went north up to Cornish Hollow about 30km in total, and it was fabulous! Little bit of wind heading south, but great riding. So that means we’ve got our February ride in! 🙂

Cycling trip to North Carolina in March

One of our club members is working on a possible cycling trip to North Carolina, leaving on March 17th, returning on March 24th. Depending on the number of people wanting to go, this will determine the lodging requirements.

If there is interest, George will provide more info and details. Feel free to ask questions and express your interest by commenting below. Let’s get the conversation started! Or if your prefer, you could email George Hussey directly.

Ride Thursday, February 23, 2012 (distance to be determined)

Short notice again, but tomorrow looks like a great day for a ride. 5° and sunny. A ride is called for! Plus, this will mean we could check off a “February ride” and say that we’ve rode at least once every month. If anyone’s interested, meet at 1:00 at Donegan Park and head out from there. Please mention below if you think you’ll be riding.

Distance and route to be determined by those wanting to ride.

While you’re thinking about it, check out this video that we found. Very well done.

Wednesday, February 15th: Dowhill skiing (among other things)

NOTE: The correct date is February, January 15th (not January as originally stated). Also, please note that it’s night skiing, not day skiing. (which means a different lift ticket).

Downhill Skiing at Brimacombe
It’s not an official club event, but there are a number of NHCC members heading to Brimacombe for some downhill skiing this Wednesday evening from about 4:30 until 9:00pm. Paul and Rick will likely be found on the Flyer ski run between 4:30 and 5:30 if you’re looking for a few familiar faces.

New Website address
We’re now easier to find on the internet and also easier to remember when we tell people how to find us! We’re now www.northumberlandhillscyclingclub.com

Get Out There magazine available at Canyon Mountain
Drop by Canyon Mountain and grab a free issue of Get Out There. It’s the issue with all the reader’s choice recipients announced, including us!

NHCC in the news
EMC Lifestyles (Trent Hills) ran a great article about our club. Check it out here Northwest EMC.

NHCC is incoroporating
We are in the process of incorporating the club and we expect this process to be complete before the official start of our riding season. The reason for this is to be in compliance with the Ontario Cycling Association’s requirement that clubs with 50 members or more do so.

The days are getting longer, so hopefully we’ll see you all on the roads soon!

Thursday, February 2nd: Afternoon ride from Donegan Park 1pm

Okay, so it might be a longshot, but the weather appears to provide a window of opportunity to sneak in a Thursday ride. Tuesday and Wednesday show 5° and rain which likely means no ice or snow remaining on the roads for Thursday when sun, cloud and 3° is forecast.

Of course that can all change, but give it some thought. Our last ride was January 10th, so it’s time we got out again. (1:00 in the afternoon)

Start time: 1:00pm
Start location: Donegan Park
Route: To be determined in response to wind patterns

If you might ride, let us know. Hopefully the forces of nature will be kind and work out for us.

The NHCC Jerseys are here! Got a few extras if you want one!

If you somehow missed placing your order for a jersey, we took the liberty of ordering a few extra ones. Here’s what we have:

Women Medium (1)
Men Medium (1)
Men Large (2)
Men XLarge (1)

These are available on a first come first serve basis. If you want one they are $65 (taxes in) and you could email Anita and let her know you want one. You’re welcome to try it on for size first if you aren’t sure.

If you ordered a jersey and are not coming to the Cat and Fiddle on Thursday, we’ll just hold on to them until we see ya next! Or you could email Anita and make arrangements to pick them up earlier if you wish.

Thursday January 26th: Wings, Jerseys and Brew Ha Ha at the Cat and Fiddle

Sources tell us that our club Jerseys are being shipped next Tuesday via overnight delivery. Mathematically speaking that means that we should have them in our hot little hands the next day. So, how ’bout meeting for Wing Night, Beer, and a little Social Mingling at the Cat and Fiddle in Cobourg? We’ll bring the jerseys with us and you can all take them home….almost like Christmas!

Let us know if you think you’re coming and we’ll make sure they set aside enough space for all.

Time: 6:00pm
Place: The Cat and Fiddle, upstairs (Cobourg)

Speaking of jerseys, here’s one that may be of interest to those who find themselves riding in less than ideal visibility conditions, or you just want to be seen!

The Traffic Master Jersey: “A retina-searing, listerine-for-the-eyes kind of garment that will keep us comfortable, warm and quite visible to our motorist friends during dawn, dusk, night, and when the fog creeps in on cat’s feet” Available from elevengear.com (Just sayin…)
