Wednesday June 18th: NHCC Club “Welcome” Social

NHCC Social and All Levels RideThis coming Wednesday will be a little different. It’s the NHCC “Welcome” Social where we welcome all club members to our 2014 riding season. It’s an All Levels ride night. That means everyone heads out for their respective rides (about an hour long) and afterward we get to mix and mingle together at the Pavillion in Victoria Park where the NHCC will be providing sandwiches, snacks, etc. for all club members. If you are riding your bike home afterward, please ensure you have lights on your bike! If you can’t make it out for the ride portion you are more than welcome to come to the Social anyways…..just let us know you are coming!

Inclement weather plan: If the ride portion is rained out, the Social at the pavillion takes place, rain or shine, starting at 6:30pm.

Start location: The parking lot behind the Dutch Oven
Start time (Ride): 6:30pm
Start time (Social): 7:30
Route maps: (coming soon)

RSVP: It’s important that we know how many members are attending so we can ensure enough food for everyone. Please leave a comment to say you are coming if you plan to attend.

Call for participants: 100km Charity Bike Ride Event: August 23rd

Tyler and MeThere is something for everyone–a swim, a walk or a bike ride. That’s where we come in! To raise funds for Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy research, Jesse’s Journey is organizing a 100k bike ride around Rice Lake for Saturday August 23rd. It’s an important event for fellow club member Sharon Lynn Weese whose 16-year old nephew Tyler Lynn suffers from this disease. Sharon is hoping that we can get as much participation as possible and raise both funds and awareness.

About Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy
Duchenne MD is a fatal disease that only affects boys, symptoms usually appearing before age 6. Those affected are typically wheelchair-bound by age 10-12. Life expectancy is approximately 25 years and there is no cure. A club member, Sharon Lynn-Weese’s 15-year old nephew Tyler Lynn has Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy. Sharon will be participating in the 100k Ride and her nephew in the 6k Walk portion in his wheelchair.

For more information, or to Register to participate, visit Brian Connor’s Rice Lake Challenge While no entry fee is required, a minimum of $100 funds raised per participant would be greatly appreciated.

Wednesday May 6, L2 – 20Km “Gully Uphill”

This week’s ride will again start at the industrial park on Willmott Street. Hill can seem daunting but a low gear and a slow pace will beat it. There is an optional hill climb near the end of this ride (Hill 60). We will all meet up again at Workman Rd, before we head back to the car park.

Start time: 6:30pm
Start location: Parking lot industrial park east end. Willmott and Dodge streets.

Wednesday June 11th: Port Hope Ride, 6:30pm

Notice: Tonight’s ride is cancelled due to weather

Let’s go for a bike ride! The Port Hope ride is suitable for most riders, riding at a pace that’s comfortable for all while we chit chat and enjoy the scenery. No lightning speed! We can’t eliminate hills, however we take them easy. Meet at the the corner of Toronto Rd. and Ridout near the Winchester Arms parking lot if you want to make the ride a little easier since we head uphill right from the start at Town Hall. But for the rest of us, the starting point is the usual, Town Hall.

Start time: 6:30pm
Start location: Port Hope Town Hall
Route: approximately 30km
Level of difficulty: varied
Ride Leader: Pamela Tate

Let Pam and others know you are riding by leaving a comment. It helps with anticipating route and speed as well as lets others know there might be someone riding at their pace.

Monday June 9th: Level 1 Ride & Ice Cream

Sunday June 8: “Wicklow Way” Organic Farm Ride

Wicklow Way FarmThis is a special Bike Week ride, where we ride out along the Waterfront Trail eastbound toward Wickow Way Farm. It’s an easy 35km ride round-trip and suitable for most levels. If you are planning to ride, please RSVP by leaving a comment so that we can notify the farm of how many people to expect.

After the farm tour, if riders want to go further, they can continue along the Waterfront Trail to Colborne and the great beyond. The remaining folks will ride back to Cobourg.

Start time: 10:00am
Start location: Donegan Park
Route: Waterfront Trail Eastbound

We will travel in a couple of different groups according to speed and ability. It’s going to be a most fabulous sunshiny day, so we hope to see a lot of people out for this ride!
