CANCELLED: due to a lousy weather forecast…again
It’s the long weekend Century Ride again! This one’s got hills and ain’t for the squeamish. And we might have lied a smidgen—it’s actually 104k. The second half is easier though, you’ll get a break as we take the Waterfront Trail. People say though, that it’s not as hard as the Rice Lake Century ride. It’s actually quite a pleasant ride, and we see some new scenery.
In Orono there’s a quaint little restaurant called the Firehall Bistro. Their menu seems to be pleasing to cyclists as we often hear about folks stopping in to grab a bite to eat.
Start time: 9:00am
Start location: The arena parking lot on Furnace St.

The forecast says there’s a chance of a thunderstorm in the afternoon, so that means we are clear for the morning! We’ll do the “Le Tour de Port Hope” (a Ganaraska Freewheeler’s route). If you choose the longer distance you’ll get to do Bickle Hill, the shorter route sorta bypasses it. Note however, that the start point is at the arena on Furnace St., contrary to what’s indicated on the map. This will add a 3k to the distances indicated on the route map.

This week your ride leader Mike will be back and he will be taking you up Cornish Hollow to Baltimore. Nice and winding, beautiful scenery, and a few hills but nothing to scare you away.

We’re half way through the best two months of summer, and the days will start to get shorter soon enough. But there is still plenty of time to get evening rides in. The Port Hope ride accommodates riders of all ability and Pam will go easy on you…she won’t make you climb Bickle Hill or anything crazy.
Start time: 6:30pm
Start location: Port Hope Town Hall

The ice cream rides are always the best, don’t you think? It really makes it feel summery when you can ride your bike with others and stop for some yummy delicious ice cream. Don’t forget to bring a couple of bucks with you!
Note: Due to the civic holiday next week there will be no Monday night ride on August 4th.
Start time: 6:30pm
Start location: The parking lot behind the Dutch Oven

In case you missed it on Thursday, we’ll do it again on Sunday. Two distances, so take your pick. Ride either distance at a Level 3 or a Level 4 pace, the only difference being that Level 3’s should ride together in a group and Level 4’s may (and usually do) start off in a group but typically break off into smaller groups according to pace.
Start time: 9:00am
Start location: The arena on Furnace St. in Cobourg

Level of Difficulty: Level 3/4
Please leave a comment….people really appreciate knowing in advance that there’s someone heading their way at their pace, someone to chat with….someone to ride with you know….just sayin. 🙂
This time there are two routes to choose from, either a 48k for Level 3 and 65k for Level 4, both of them the same for the first 22km and the last part of the route as well. It’s only the middle part that’s different.
Hey folks….there are plenty out there who would like to ride at a level 3 pace and would be a whole lot happier knowing there are others doing the same, so please leave a comment and let others know your plans. All ya gotta do is say, “hey! I’m riding at a Level 3 pace, 48k”, or “Hey, I’ll ride at a Level 3 pace for 56k” and then voilà, there may be others that say they’ll ride with ya!

If you miss the ride on Thursday don’t sweat it. We’ll do it again on Sunday. Better yet, ride it both times if you you can!
We’ve been getting some good mileage in this month, which is great if you want to work toward participating in the 100k on Labour Day weekend (or 50k is also an option). Tonight we will venture along the Waterfront Trail eastbound from Donegan Park for 45 minutes then turn around and return. Easy, and no hills! You just gotta love it! Since Mike is still vacationing waaaaay over there in Italy, Dennis will be your esteemed ride leader for this ride.
Start time: 6:30pm
Start location: Donegan Park
Route: Waterfront Trail Eastbound (no route maps necessary)

If you’ve missed some of the rides in Cobourg, why not bike on over to Port Hope, get a few extra kilometres in, and join the Port Hope crowd as they pedal around the countryside over there where the scenery is beautiful and the hills aren’t as crazy as you think!

Think you’ll ride? Please leave a comment letting Pam know.
