Wednesday October 1st: Off Season Hike Night

Since an evening ride is no longer an option, we will instead offer the opportunity to do something a little different. Meet at 6pm at the Port Hope Town Hall with some comfortable shoes cuz we are going for a Hike! Yes, a Hike! Nothing to strenuous, just a little walking and social time. Keeps our bodies moving and it’ll be fun. If it turns out to be of interest to members, we’ll consider making it a regular event.

Time: 6pm
Location: Port Hope Town Hall parking lot
Hike Leader: George Hussey

Because it’s a new activity and we’d like to know how many are interested, please leave a comment indicating that you plan to attend.

Monday Sept. 29: Bike Maintenance Workshop

We’re not ready to stop riding yet, but before the season is over for most folks we’re offering a workshop on how to clean and maintain your bike. Many of you bought beautiful new bikes this summer, but if you haven’t done a thing with it yet, you probably should have! New or not so new, we’ll learn how to clean our bikes, clean and lubricate the chain, and change a flat tire. This is a hands on workshop so bring your bike and get ready to get your hands a little dirty!

Date: Monday, September. 29th
Time: 6:00-8:30pm
Location: Cycle Transitions, 739 D’Arcy Street, Cobourg (Across the street from the Cobourg Community Centre, entrance at rear (west) side of building.
Workshop Leader: Maria Garrett

Sunday September 28: Sunshiny ride and lunch at Rhinos

All riiiiiight! The forecast is 25C for Sunday and sunshine! Summer seems to be giving us a second chance. It will be a great opportunity to ride up to Bewdley, have lunch on the outdoor patio (you’ll have to do the 72k route) and then coast home, mostly downhill. You gotta do the uphill first though. 🙂 If you want to stay for lunch at Rhinos, bring a few extra $ with you, leave a comment so we can make sure that adequate space is reserved.

Start time: 10am
Start location: The park on Carlisle between Westwood and Ewing
Route map (62k): Printable route map here or view it on Ride with GPS

Let us know if you are riding, but more importantly if you plan to get lunch at Rhinos.

Thursday September 25: Ride at 10am

We did this one a while ago, but folks really enjoyed it so we will do it again. We can’t lie….it’s a hilly one, but there are two distances to choose from. You’ll head along the Lakeshore, travel north to the 7th line (we all know how hilly that is!) then decide if you want to head over to Bewdley or skip out on a little distance and take the shorter route.

Start time: 10am
Start location: The park on Carlisle between Westwood and Ewing
Route map (62k): Printable route map here or view it on Ride with GPS

I know, we say it all the time, but please leave a comment if you hope to ride.

Port Hope ride: Wednesday Sept. 24 6:00pm

The Port Hope ride is on! It’s going to be sunny, and overall just a lovely fall evening. Since there are fewer riders coming out now that the season is getting closer to the end, please leave a comment indicating that you plan to ride. George is your ride leader tonight and he’d love to know how many to expect!

Time: 6:00pm
Location: Port Hope Town Hall
Ride Leader: George

Monday Sept. 22: Level 1 ride at 6:00pm

We are going to start in our slightly out-of-town spot that gets us out onto those lovely country roads. The sun officially sets at 7:09pm this evening, so lights will be required for all those riding, as of 6:39pm.

Start time: 6:00pm
Start location: Wicklow Beach
Ride leader: Maria Garrett

Thursday Sept. 18: Ride from Donegan Park 10am

If you missed it last Sunday, we’ll do it on Thursday. Shelter Valley Road. Massey Road has newish gravel for about 2-3 kms but it’s rideable, just be cautious. Otherwise, it’s a good route and there’s sunshine in the forecast.

Start time: 10am
Start location: Donegan Park
Route map: Printable route map here, or view it on Ride with GPS

Please let others know you are riding tomorrow. The Thursday group is typically quite small so it’s good to know you won’t be standing there alone at the park waiting. 🙂

Wednesday September 17: Final All Levels Ride for 2014

This will be the last “All Levels” ride for the season. (not the final ride of the season….just the last All Levels ride) We have reserved with The Mill, who have kindly agreed to let us start and finish the ride in their parking lot, and afterward we will head inside to the Pub area for those wishing to order up beer and snacks. In case you’ve forgotten, an All Levels ride means that there’s just one route and everyone rides—but at their respective paces, Levels 1-4.

It’s an opportunity to try the next level up, and since everyone follows the same route you can always drop back and wait for the group behind you. We will ride out for 35 minutes then turn around and come back the same way—Everyone finishes at the same time.

Lights on bikes are essential. The sun sets at 7:18pm on Wednesday, meaning lights are required on both the front and back of your bike as of 6:48pm

Time: 6:00–7:10pm (ride) 7:15-9:00pm (social)
Start location: The Mill parking lot
Route map: 36km printable route map here, or view it on Ride with GPS
Ride leaders: TBA

Important: Please RSVP so that we can ensure adequate reservation for space at The Mill
