Thursday August 31: Level 3/4 Evening Ride (36 or 49 km)

Evenings are getting shorter (and colder!). But we can still squeeze in a 49km ride (or decide in Harwood to make it 36km if you wish). The sun sets at 7:48pm meaning we will need lights on our bikes. Since Kennedy Rd. is all under construction, this is a modified route of one of our favourites:

Albert’s Alley, Jibb, Bethel Grove up to Morton, then north toward Rice Lake where we’ll cover Lander Rd. and make our way to Gore’s Landing then along Rice Lake Scenic Dr. You can knock 13 km off the route by turning south again in Harwood making it a 36k ride, or do the full 49km by continuing long the shoreline and turning south at Lilac Valley Rd. instead.

Start time: 6:00pm
Ride Leader: Anita Macklin
Start location: Hamilton Township Offices parking lot (Burnham and Majestic Hills Rd.)

Monday, August 28th: Level 1 ride

We’re going to stay in town and try to find a few roads that we don’t visit very often! It gets dark early these days so please have lights on your bike. A white light on the front, and red at the back as required by law.

Time: 6:00
Meeting Location: parking lot behind the Dutch Oven
Ride Leader: Maria Siemiaszko

Thursday August 24: Level 3/4 ride (revisited)

Re-scheduled from last week: This route starts at Sylvan Glen Conservation area and we head over the Port Hope way, up County Rd 10 and then along the 7th line then over to the Osaca direction. Nice hilly route, but not super crazy. Let’s hope the weather cooperates!

Start time: 6:00pm
Ride Leader: Anita Macklin
Start location: Sylvan Glen Conservation Area (Port Hope)

Monday, August 21st: Level 1 ice cream ride

Dennis will lead a ride that will be staying pretty well in the east end of town and include an ever popular stop for ice cream so bring a little money along if you’d like a treat. Lights are required by law half an hour before sunset which is ever earlier so please come prepared. Our leisurely level 1 rides make it easy to socialize with your fellow members!

Time: 6:00
Meeting Location: Diamond Head Industrial Mall on Wilmott Street
Ride Leader: Dennis Benson

Pre-announcing the 50/100k ride in September

Every September we do a 100km ride (with a 50km option too) to Presqu’ile Park and back. It’s a great goal to work toward if you are looking to set a goal! This is about the flattest (aka easiest) 100k around and we should all be in great shape to give it a try. We’ll aim to scheduled it for the weekend of September 23 or 24th, whichever day looks better. Should that weekend be a total fail as far as weather goes, we’ll do it the following weekend. So, mark your calendars and start preparing.

Thursday August 17: Level 3/4 ride, Sylvan Glen to Osaca

There’s this strange perception that the Level 4 group is insanely fast or something, but we’re here to tell you it’s not the case! A number of Level 3s have been pleasantly surprised to find they can do it, no problem! Occasionally we break off into a couple of different pace groups but more often than not we tend to stay together. This route starts at Sylvan Glen Conservation area and we head over the Port Hope way, up County Rd 10 and then along the 7th line then over to the Osaca direction. Nice hilly route, but not super crazy. Let’s hope the weather cooperates!
