Thursday Aug. 10: Evening Ride, Level 3/4

Everyone thinks the Level 4 ride is super crazy fast and hard, and we’re here to tell you it’s just not! This is a groovy Level 4 ride, but also one that Level 3s should also be able to manage if you don’t mind a few hills! This route has those rolling hills of Danforth, but also some really great downhills, especially Lyle St. in Grafton where you can yell “yeeeeeeeehaaaaaaa” while going down. Two distances to choose from, both starting at Cycle Transitions. The deciding point about which distance you’ll take doesn’t happen until we are around the 18km point, near St. Anne’s spa. Note the 6:00 start time!

Start time: 6:00pm
Ride Leader: Anita Macklin
Start Location: Cycle Transitions parking lot on D’Arcy St.

New start time for evening rides, 6:00pm

Now that August is upon us and the days are getting shorter, we generally start the evenings rides at 6:00pm unless otherwise posted. This allows us to get a little more distance in! Also, please note that all bicycles are required to have lights on the fronts and backs starting at 30 minutes prior to sunset. Official sunset times are found by clicking on the “Sunrise and Sunset” link in the right hand column of our website (right below those handy weather links)

Call for Volunteers for Bike Up Northumberland, Saturday September 9th

Saturday, September 9th marks the 3rd annual Bike Up Northumberland ride. This ride for all ages and levels is a fundraiser for both the Northumberland Hills and Campbellford Hospitals. Monies raised are split evey between the two hospitals and proceeds are used to purchase life saving equipment. NHCC has had a strong showing of riders each year of which we are proud. We have also provided an incredible number of volunteers which make this event possible.

As volunteer coordinator for Bike Up, I am once again asking for NHCC members and anyone that you know who would be interested (family, friends, students in need of volunteer hours…) to help out. We require 2 people to take care of each of the refreshment/turnaround stations at 5, 10, 50, and 100km, as well as 2 riders to act as sweep for each ride distance of 5, 10, 25, 50km. (100km is already taken care of. Big thanks to Jim Keill and Tara Smith Wilson!)

It’s a fun day for a worthwhile cause and if you can help out, please contact me through the comments, emailing the club, or me directly if you have my number (which I don’t post on this public page!)

Thanks!

Maria

Sat. July 29: Mixed Levels, Peterborough Excursion

Rotary Greenway Trail
In another of the NHCC’s out of town excursions we are meeting in Peterborough at Beavermede Park and heading out to explore new areas.

Levels 1 & 2: A super nice, scenic, flat and easy ride from Beavermede to Lakefield along the Peterborough Rotary Greenway Trail. The first half is paved so if you turn around at Trent University you’ll do 14km, all paved. Continue to Lakefield along crushed lime screening for a total of 40km round trip. The incentive to continue to Lakefield is the fabulous ice cream shop, so bring a little $$.

Levels 3 & 4: We’ll modify the route slightly so that everyone starts at Beavermede Park and travels the first 7k together on the paved Rotary trail. Choose either the Ptbo Route 1a – Lakes, Rivers and Cafes 45. Or, for 60km, we’ll follow the Route 1 – Lakes, Rivers and Cafes 60

Date: Saturday July 29
Start time10:00am
Start Location: Beavermede Park
