Sunday June 30th: Century Ride around Rice Lake

Well, sort of a century ride…..a century ride plus 7km (107km total). We leave from the Bewdley Arena at 9am and travel around the lake starting with the south side. We’re not having an “official” lunch stop, but Hastings is the half-way point so folks can organize amongst themselves if anyone wants to pause and eat in the restaurant or grab something on the go. Being such a long ride, note that the start time is at 9:00am

This one isn’t quite as flat and fast as the Presqu’ile route was…..it’s got some hills. Up and down, pretty much all the way.

Start time: 9:00am
Start location: Bewdley Arena parking lot (Lake St. in Bewdley)
Route map: Printable route map here here or link to Ride with GPS

No ride leader is designated this time. Although we will generally ride as a group, it’s possible that smaller groups may break off. Each of us should print out a map and be sure to buddy up on the ride so that nobody rides alone. If you want to stop in Hastings for lunch, use the commenting section below to make plans with others.

No Level 1 Ride Monday, July 1st

There will be no Level 1 ride this Monday, July 1st.  In trying to keep our routes as flat as possible we can’t avoid the downtown area and it will be very busy with Waterfront Festival and Canada Day celebrations.  We’ll resume our Monday evening rides the following week.  Of special note for those wondering if they can do a Level 2 ride, we’ll have a special opportunity for you to try what it’s like on Wednesday, July 10th.  Watch for more information on this ride.

Happy Canada weekend!

Thursday June 27th: MORNING Ride from Port Hope (Gilmers)

Two rides tomorrow! One in the morning and one in the evening to accommodate those who are working during the day. We will ride from Port Hope, leaving from Gilmer’s Home Hardware parking lot. There are three routes to choose from, each of them the same for the first 7km and the last 10km. It’s the “in-between” part that is longer for each of the other distances.

And if you really want to add more distance to the route, depart from Canadian Tire at 9:20am and you’ll add an extra 22km total to your route.

Start time: 10:00am

We’ll need ride leaders for the ride tomorrow night, so if you are able to do so, please volunteer by commenting below. It’s really easy….you’ve just got to print out the map and be able to read it, and of course stay with the group.

Never mind about that “small chance of rain”, it’s pouring buckets here so  an official cancellation of the Port Hope Ride is in order.

Tuesday June 25th: Ride from Port Hope Still on!

The weather is only showing a small chance of rain for tonight, so the ride is still on. Hey, at least it’s warm and the days are long. The sun doesn’t even set until 8:59 so there’s plenty of time to get in a decent length ride.

Start time: 6:30pm
Start location: Port Hope Town Hall
Ride Leader: George Hussey
Sunset: 8:59 (lights required at 8:29pm)

Wednesday June 26th: Level 2 ride

This ride starts at the Arena on Furnace Street in Cobourg and heads out into the countryside.  There are few hills on this ride but for every up there has to be a down (the ride down Williamson to the Danforth makes it all worth it)
Don’t let it scare you—that’s what those smaller chain rings are for! The scenery outside of town is worth it.

Start time: 6:30pm

Start location: Arena parking lot

Start time:  7:00 pm

Start Location:  The arena on Furnace Street

Ride Leader:  Maria Garrett
