Sunday June 11: Another Waterfront ride option, Eastbound!
It’s going to be a great day for cycling! Roberto is leading another Waterfront Trail option for those wishing to go Eastbound from Cobourg. This will be an All Levels ride. Any club member can participate, choosing your own pace. The route goes “out-and-back” which means that you turn around at any point making it a distance that you are comfortable with. The group start together and break up into smaller ones based on speed and distance. Some may even choose to do 100k by going all the way into Presqu’ile Park to the lighthouse if they are allowing bicycles in (the park is closed for camping at the moment due to water levels).
Please note that weekend rides don’t have individual ride leaders and sweeps assigned for each of the levels. It’s a multi-level group ride and participants will naturally break into smaller groups, so plan to pair up with riders of similar ability.
It’s helpful if you are planning to ride to leave a comment indicating your preference regarding Level of difficulty you want to do (Level 1, 2, 3 or 4), and your planned distance or time. It lets others also plan in advance!
Start time: 9:30am
Start location: The arena on Furnace St.
Ride Coordinator: Roberto
Route: Waterfront Trail Eastbound (Printable Map) or Link to it on Ride with GPS.
Sunday, June 11th: Waterfront Adventure Ride!
Sunday looks like it will be a beautiful day for a ride and a few friends and I are going to ride from Whitby to Pickering and back, and if anyone wants to join us they are welcome to. It promises to be to be a bit of an adventure as the spring rains and floods have changed up the Waterfront Trail in some areas! Be prepared to make a detour or two and push your bike at times. Bring fluids. If anyone wants to stop for lunch at a restaurant, The Waterfront Restaurant is right on the trail in Pickering and there may be a few food trucks around. The other option is to bring your lunch and enjoy it at a waterfront park (which is what I am doing). Because the ride is along the trail and back, everyone can make what the want of it so it is suitable for all levels. For level 1 riders, be advised that there are a few smallish uphills.
Let us know you if you are coming so we can look for you in the parking lot, and whether you want to make a restaurant stop for lunch. There are no ride leaders for the different levels for this ride. By leaving a comment, you can find if someone else is interested in doing the same type of ride as you so you can group together.
Date: Sunday, June 11th
Level of difficulty: you can make it whatever level you want by turning around at what you want to be your halfway point. For reference, the distance from the parking lot to The Waterfront Restaurant and back is just under 40km
Time: be ready to start riding at 10:30
Meeting Location: the large parking lot across from the Heydenshore Pavillion (589 Water Street, Whitby)
Ride Organizer: Maria Siemiaszko
MORNING RIDE: Thursday June 8
Bruce is going to lead the Thursday morning group ride, starting at Westwood Park on Carlisle and heading out along County Road 2 and Theatre Road to Sylvan Glen, then back through Port Hope. Depending on the group consensus, we might stop for a coffee and treat in downtown PH.
Start time: 9:30
Level of difficulty: 3
Start location: Westwood Park (on Carlisle between Ewing and Westwood)
Distance: approx 40 km
Just a few hills (says Bruce)
Thursday June 8: Level 4 Ride to Harwood (55km)
There’s no rain in the forecast for Thursday! Time to add a little distance, so we are heading to Harwood for a 55km total ride. We’ve got 2 hours and 22 minutes to complete the ride before the sun sets. Make sure you have lights on your bike, since the law requires lights on 30 minutes before sunset. Hills and speed will make for a Level 4 ride!
Ride Leader: Anita Macklin
Start time: 6:30pm
Start location: The arena on Furnace St.
Route Map: Printable 55k map/cue sheet or link to it on Ride with GPS
So how ’bout it? Let us know you are going to ride so he can know how many to expect at the start.
