Ride cancelation notice
It looks like rain with possible thunderstorms rolling in this afternoon around 5:00 so we are playing it safe and canceling the ride.
Saturday, July 15th: Joint Ride with the Ganaraska Freewheelers
This season we will have two rides with another local cycling club, the Ganaraska Freewheelers. On Saturday we are having the first joint ride and are offering two routes. We will all meet in Hastings, and then set out on your ride of choice.
Option 1: The Lang Hastings Trail which is suitable for all levels – head out at the speed you want for whatever distance you’d like then head back the same way.
Option 2: A road ride to the Stoney Lake Market in Crowes Landing and back on the same route. This ride is Level 3 or 4 .
For those who want a little ice cream to fuel the ride, there are opportunities for that on both routes. If anyone wants to go out for a drink, bite to eat, and socializing afterwards, there are some choices for that in Hastings and we can discuss that before the ride.
Date: Saturday, July 15th
Start Time: 10:00
Meeting Location: parking lot beside Banjos ( public washroom facilities are available)
Route (Option 1):
Suitable for all levels, (crushed limestone path) : Lang Hastings Trail (distance is your choice)
- Start at parking lot at 3 Bridge Street South
- Head north over bridge
- Turn left at the lights (Front Street West)
- Turn left onto Park Lane (you have travelled 1.9km so far and you are very close to the trail now)
- Turn left onto River Road
- Turn left onto Asphodel 7th Line
- The trail in on your right
- Ride however far you would like (FYI-33km to get to Peterborough) then turn around and come back the same way
NOTE: when you return, make sure you turn left off the trail at Asphodel 7th Line. If you keep going you will come to the river with the open swing bridge so will have to turn around again and get to Asphodel 7th Line. This is not far and no big deal if you miss the turn the first time
Route (Option 2):
Level 3,4 : 66km (or you can turn around early
- Start at 3 Bridge Street South
- Head north over bridge to stop sign (Albert Street/Hwy 45) – turn right
- Follow 45 into Norwood at which point 45 turns into 40 once you cross Hwy 7
- Follow 40 until you get to the lake (Stoney Lake Market)
- Turn around and follow 40 then 45 back to parking lot

July 10 Monday Night Level 2/3 ride
The return of a crowd favourite. 😄 Last time we rode this route everyone raved about the scenery, the Lake Ontario views from atop the Jamieson Twins and awesome downhills.
Same starting point at the Hamilton Twp. Offices followed by a slow, steady climb up Burnham. The fun starts on Donaldson, Canning and McBride where we’ll take a break for refreshments…and (gulp) a few selfies by Deena & others, I am sure.
Then it’s down the Jamiesons to Kennedy. We’ll lengthen the route a bit from last time by going up to Vimy Ridge to Vic Goheen and then returning on Bethel Grove to Jibb. From Jibb it’s all downhill along Williamson to Dale, to Burnham.
Starting Point: Hamilton Twp Municipal offices on Majestic Hills
Start Time: 6:15 (PLEASE NOTE EARLIER START TIME)
Ride Leader: Roberto and Dennis
Route Length: 35-45 km
Thursday July 6: EVENING ride to Millbrook (again)
Last week the forecast was for thunderstorms that never materialized so we cancelled. So, it’s a great ride and we want to try again, riding up to Millbrook and back. The route is straightforward, so no route map is required. Straight up County Rd. 10. Long slow climb most of the way there and zippity fast ride back. Relatively strong Level 3 riders with a road bike might find this route to their liking too!
Start time: 6:30pm
Ride Leader: Anita Macklin
Start location: George Hamilton School parking lot in Welcome
Wed. July 5 – L3 – 39km
This ride will start from the arena on Furnace Street. We will head north from the arena and will meander through the countryside north of Baltimore before we head back to Cobourg.
There are several hills on this ride but remember “what goes up must come down”!
Ride Leader: Mike
Start Time: 6:30
Start Location: Arena on Furnace Street
Route Map: L3 39 km “Northumberland Heights”
Tues July 4 Level 2 Ride WT to Station Rd
I have checked with the Cobourg Cycling Club and they are not using the Waterfront Trail this week, so lets build up some stamina on a relatively flat-ish route. We will Start at the Parking Lot 210 Willmott (Old Coke Plant, Sleep Country) and ride out along the Waterfront Trail, Hwy 2, to Archer’s Rd, down to the lake and over the railway bridge and along Lakeshore Rd to Station Rd in Grafton. (11.3Klm) We will then turn around and head back the way we came. There are a couple of Railway bridge hills involved (east end of Cobourg and Archer’s Rd) but they will be training for next week’s ride with Colin Banfield into Cornish Hollow. Total ride distance will be 22.6 Klm. We will have frequent rest/water breaks.
Please bring y0ur helmets, have tires pumped to maximum pressure and chime in the comment section if you plan to ride.
As always, there will be a short safety talk before each ride.
Start Time: 6:30 sharp
Ride Leader: Geoffrey Honey
Start Location: Willmott Industrial Parking Lot, 210 Willmott St Cobourg (Old Coke Plant/ Sleep Country)
JULY 3rd Monday Night Level 2/3 ride
Let’s try something different! Another out of town SP, a wiggle through Grafton, a gentle ride up Shelter Valley then East on Telephone Road to Colborne and beyond.
Time permitting we will try to get to Brighton along Little Lake for a coffee or a beer. If not we’ll turn around without refreshments. 🙂 Return will be along Hwy 2 and Lakeshore Rd.
A great way to wind down Canada 🇨🇦 Day long weekend!
Ride Leader: Roberto/Allan (aka “The Old Sapper”)
Start Time: 6:00 PM (PLEASE NOTE EARLIER START TIME)
Ride Location: Grafton St. Mary’s School.
Route Length: 35-45 km
