ALL THE WHEELY FUN CLUB NEWS!
NHCC Rides for the week of: Monday July 31st to Sunday August 6th
Believe it or not, the days are already becoming shorter….quickly! Over the next 30 days we will lose 47 minutes of daylight for our evening rides. For that reason, the start times for the evening rides will move to 6:00pm. We’ll move it again, come September. By the way, did you know that the Highway Traffic Act requires cyclists to have both front and rear lights on their bikes from 30 minutes before sunset until 30 minutes after sunrise? Therefore, it’s going to be essential to have your lights charged up and ready to for each evening ride. As a matter of fact, we encourage you to have your lights operating on every ride—day or night!
This week you will also notice that Level 1s and 2s will merge rides—which is actually a lot of fun because you ride with a bigger group and meet new people! This Thursday the Level 3/4s are riding to Presqu’ile Park and back—either 42km or do a Century Ride—there are two distances to choose from, with different start times. Then on Sunday you can also choose to make the ride any distance you want because it’s out-and-back. Easy peasy!

Summer is upon is and with that, the sun starts setting earlier beginning on Tuesday (goshdarnit!). This week the 3/4s are riding from Whitby on Thursday and taking the Waterfront Trail from Whitby to the Rouge River, which is always a fantastic portion of the Trail (note the 9:30 start time). On Sunday, everyone’s riding the Millennium Trail— The Level 1 & 2s are merging their Sunday ride together into one and going as far as Wellington, while the 3/4s are taking it right to the end and back for 75km of nice flat riding. It’s a wonderful route with plenty of gorgeous scenery and of course there are always diversions to be taken to wineries or ice cream (though not in Wellington, we learned—unless you arrive after 12 noon)
