Here’s what the NHCC is up to!
Sunday June 20th Ride (Fathers Day) (50k flat, from Port Hope?)
This coming sunday is Father’s Day. There was some talk after the last ride about going for a distance of about 40-50k this coming Sunday but it’s unclear whether or not many people are able to make it.
In the words of Brian Hedney: “I was thinking that we might wish to consider a 50 km, relatively flat, 50 km ride from Port Hope next Sunday. If we were to start at Gilmer’s Home Hardware, on Toronto Road, we would avoid the climb out of downtown. I could easily put together a relatively flat 50 km route for such a ride. What do you think about the notion of starting in Port Hope? There is a Tim Hortons there with a washroom :)”
Let’s all weigh in with our thoughts about starting in Port Hope. Does a different starting point prevent anybody from joining us? (like transporting bicycles etc.?) If so, perhaps a few generous souls with bicycle carrying capacity might offer assistance, if required?
If a Port Hope start point is too complicated for people, we can stick to Donegan Park.
Re-scheduling of the 74k route for this Sunday, June 13th
Since last Sunday seemed to be a washout, let’s discuss and decide on doing the 74k route this Sunday. Same details as last Sunday. Meet at Donegan Park at 10:00, lunch at Harwood. Here’s a link to the map:
Brian Hedney expressed interest in re-scheduling and offered to bring maps for people. Anyone interested?
Potential 74k ride this Sunday June 6th
Stay tuned for details about a possible 74k ride this coming Sunday (weather permitting, as always) with a lunch stop at the restaurant in Harwood that is across the street from the Harwood store. The route and restaurant facilities have yet to be confirmed, but if you’d like to take a look at the map and start thinking ahead, here is the link. 74k Rice Lake Ramble Map with lunch break in Harwood.
If anyone prefers less distance, please comment below and perhaps we can form a shorter length group that would certainly be welcome to participate for a portion of the ride.
If you think you are going to join in for lunch, please make mention of it below so that we can give advance notice to the restaurant.
Sunday May 30th Ride
A pleasant 45K ride with seven riders consisting of Vivian and Harold, Winston, Barb, Anita and Randy and our newest rider Glen.
From Donegan park up Ontario west along Danforth up Williamson and along Jibb to Doyle to Alberts Lane Down 18 and along Smiley to Cornish Hollow to Ball to Rose down Racetrack south on Harwood up Gully east on Community Centre Road to Payne, Van Luven and Nagle into town via Greer and Workman and Along the lake back to the park.
A great ride with great folks, hot and sunny lots of great smooth pavement!
Next week we are considering a longer ride, perhaps around 70K with a lunch break.
A shorter option will also be planned.
Stay tuned!
Sunday, May 23
We were a little skeptical about the weather when we started out at 10:00, but the cloudiness gave way to sunshine and it turned out to be a fabulous day for a ride. 50km of sunshine, lilacs trees, beautiful green pastures, Mama and baby horses, Lake Ontario, and a whole bunch of Toronto Bike Network cyclists heading in the opposite direction.
Klaus, Randy, Bill, Winston and Anita all took in the ride today. Good conversation and a nice comfortable pace made for a great day all around. Comments, anyone?
