Thursday July 19th, Ride to Harwood and Back (59 km)

The route map says 42km but we are starting from Donegan Park instead which will add an additional 17km to the route for a total of 59km.

Shorter route (42km): If you wish todo just 42 km, park your car at the corner of Dale Rd. and Cornish Hollow area and you can leave from the store when the rest of the group arrives there at around 9:20am

The best part of this route is the ability to re-load your water bottles with fresh, cold water from the tap in Harwood. There’s also the Harwood store on the route for those who might be wanting popsicles, or other such wonderful cold treats.

Start time: 9am (Long route)  9:20am (short route)
Start location: Donegan Park (Long route)  Dale Rd. store, at the corner of Dale and Cornish Hollow (short route)

We promise some slightly cooler weather than we’ve been having. Please comment below if you are coming and which route you wish to do. And hey! If you haven’t been out for a ride in a while, why not come on out? This is a fun route and not too terribly challenging.

Ride, Wings and Tour de France: Wednesday July 18th, 7:00pm

This Wednesday we’ll do something a little different and lots of fun. Ride, Beer, Wings, Friends, and Tour de France? Does it get any better?

Please mention below if you are coming to The Mill so they can be ready for the numbers. (The ride is for club members only, but friends and family are welcome at The Mill portion after the ride.)

See you all there!

RIDE in Port Hope—Tuesday July 17th Easy Ride (7:00)

It seems as though the Port Hope ride is a success, so we will continue this Tuesday. The Port Hope rides are casual ones and the pace is meant to be suitable and comfortable for riders of all ability. For the month of July we’ll have a standard meeting place and time—the Port Hope Town Hall at 7:00. If you want to ride over there from Cobourg, meet at Canadian Tire at 6:20.

Start location: Port Hope Town Hall
Ride leader: A Port Hope volunteer is needed!

Please comment below to the ride leader know how many they might expect to be there and also mention if you want to ride over from Cobourg.

EASY RIDE: Monday July 16th, 7:00pm

This easy ride has two options. The longer 32km route takes in The Gully which is a relatively short, steep hill for you to challenge yourself with. But if hills aren’t quite in your plan, take the shorter 24km route you’ll make the ride a little easier and flatter. Either way, you’ll still get in your Tour de Northumberland Hills distance!

It’s Stage 15 of the Tour de Northumberland Hills and doing this ride will qualify for the 16 km stage. Easy stuff!

Start time: 7:00pm
Location: Cobourg Memorial Rink and Recreation Centre

Ride Leader: Volunteer Needed

Please comment below to say you’re coming to the ride.

Sunday July 15th Ride: (28, 45 or 63km)

This route is the same as the one we did for the Ride, Dine and FilmFest (minus the film and dining part, of course) There are three distances to choose from, so there’s something for everyone. It’s also the start of week three and Stage 14 of the Tour de Northumberland which means that you can easily get in the 19.4km distance.

Start time: 9:00am
Start location: The parking lot behind the Dutch Oven, Cobourg
Route Map: Route Map here

Pack Leader (Non-stoppers): Need a volunteer

SPECIAL EVENT Thursday July 12th: Ride to Presqu’ile, Picnic/Swim

On this Thursday, July 12th the ride will be a little different. We’ll ride to Presqu’ile Park where we can have a picnic and a swim before heading back. The total distance would result in approximately 90km. But if you are a little leary of that kind of distance don’t be—it’s a flat route, easy riding, and we’ll travel at various paces to accommodate. If you ride the hills around here, this will feel really easy in comparison (just longer). We promise the weather will be sunny and warm!

Paul’s wife Jill has kindly offered to drive down there with our beach towels, coolers, etc. which means you don’t have to worry about transporting your stuff, you just ride for the fun! How cool is that?

The park entrance fee is $2 so bring a couple of bucks with you to cover that, please.

Start time: 9:00 (Arrive at park for 8:45 to load car)
Start location: Donegan Park

Please comment below if you are planning to attend so that Paul and Jill can make their necessary arrangements for the vehicle etc.

Tour de NorthumberlandHills Winner of Week 1

[insert big drum roll]. Well, here it is,the moment we have all been waiting for! The winner of Week 1 of the Tour de Northumberland Hills is none other than……..MikeMcLellan. He wins a $50 gift certificate from Port Hope Bicycle. Congratulations, Mike! Unfortunately we don’t have any podium girls to present it to you, so you can swing by PHB anytime and pick it up.

Also, George wanted to make mention of the great efforts put forth by Lorna Dickson and Maria Garrett who completed every stage! So, there’s a little something for each of you two over at PHB.

One last thing……We know how tough and challenging this sport is, so prize winners are expected to submit to a drug test prior to receiving their prizes–It’s only fair you know!   🙂
