Here’s a lovely 36km Ganaraska Freewheeler’s route that we’ll borrow, leaving from the Port Hope Town Hall parking lot and takes you out through Mastwoods Rd., one of our favourites. It’s a great night to ride, nothing but sunshine today! (But hey, we got rain last night while everyone was sleeping! Yippee)

Start location: Port Hope Town Hall Parking lot

Apparently June is a busy month for people and this weekend is just too busy for most! There aren’t enough participants to proceed with the Adolphustown Cycle Tour this coming weekend, so we are going to refund deposits to those who paid already. We are still looking forward to the two-night Township Tour in September, so there’s still another opportunity for those who want to try touring!
Celebrate Summer Solstice with a route that is brand new for Level 1! You may also catch a glimpse of the full moon.
Date: Monday, June 20th
Time: 6:00
Meeting Location: in front of the Baltimore Arena
Level of Difficulty: 1
Ride Leader: Dennis Benson
This Sunday we honour a past NHCC club member Sharon Ingle who lost her fight to cancer at the end of 2013 riding season.
In June of 2013 Sharon sought support from the NHCC as she was still “Riding to Survive”, never planning to give up. She fully planned to become a CanBike instructor at the time of her passing. Sharon left a significant impact on those who met her and everyone admired her spirit and optimism.
Donations: We are asking Sunday’s participants to make a voluntary donation that the NHCC will forward along to this year’s Bike Up! Northumberland fundraiser in support of Northumberland’s two hospitals.
The route: It’s a simple out-and-back along the Waterfront Trail Eastbound so there are no route maps or ride leaders needed. We will break into groups according to ability and everyone can ride as long (or short) as desired. Make it just 25k, or go all the way to Presqu’ile for a 100k return trip.
Start time: 10:00am
Start location: Donegan Park
Guest riders are welcome. Please leave a comment letting others know approximately what level of difficulty you wish to ride at (Levels 1 – 4). That way, others can plan to ride with you!
We cannot lie….there are some hills, but it should scare off any Level 4s. It’s actually quite a nice route all the way up to Millbrook and coming back there are plenty of downhills to make it a blast. We’ll start some place different this time, Sylvan Glen. The route is about 50k.
*Due to reports of roadwork on a significant portion of County Rd 10 we have changed the route and will still leave from Sylvan Glen but will head out toward Osaca and back.
Start time: 6:00pm
Ride Leader: Anita Macklin
Start location: Sylvan Glen Conservation Area (Port Hope)
Route map: *New, alternate Printable route map, or link to it on Ride with GPS
It’s the third Wednesday of the month which means an All Levels ride, this time followed by beer on the Patio at The Cat ‘n Fiddle in Cobourg. The rides starts and finishes at parking lot on Covert St. and after the ride portion is complete, we’ll mosey on over to the patio for beer and snacks. The forecast is for overcast skies but warm!
All Levels Rides: There’s just one route out-and-back route. You ride for time instead of distance so everyone can start and finish together regardless of speed. It’s your chance to try out the next level up. There’s really no risk because if you can’t keep up you can just drop back and people from the other levels will be coming up behind you. There will be a designated Leader setting the pace for each of the Levels 1, 2, 3 and 4 so you can just choose your level and ride!
Time: 6:00–7:30pm (ride) 7:30-9:00pm (Social)
Start location: The parking lot on Covert St. in Cobourg
Route map: printable route map here, or view it on Ride with GPS
Important: Please RSVP so that we can ensure adequate patio space for everyone! RSVP by leaving us a comment….just tell us you’re coming!
It’s time for the Dead End Tour – West Edition! We’ll ride west onto Cty Road 2 and explore the dead end roads along the way. The dead end roads are nice and quiet and we usually make a few discoveries during our rides!
Time: 6:00
Meeting Location: park at Westwood and Carlisle
Level of Difficulty: 1
Ride Leader: Maria Siemiaszko
This ride will be on the sort-of-easyish side, meaning relatively flat (but not totally). We’ll start in Port Hope at Gilmer’s Home Hardware parking lot which means we won’t have to climb the big hill before heading out along the Lakeshore. If you want to add an extra 20k to the route you could leave from Cobourg Canadian Tire at 9:30. This is one of Brian Hedney’s Ganaraska Freewheeler routes, so it’s sure to be a good one!
A note about Sunday rides: These are considered “mixed level” rides which means you can expect a variety of skill levels. Be prepared to break off into smaller groups according to ability. All participants must carry a route map or have it accessible by mobile phone, have a tire changing kit on-bike, and consider a short route plan in advance if you don’t wish to do the entire distance. While groups will naturally form, there are no designated ride-leaders for the different levels as expected on regular weeknight rides.
Start time: 10:00am (9:30 from Canadian Tire)
Ride Coordinator: Anita Macklin
Start location: Gilmer’s Home Hardware parking lot (under the big sign)
Route map: Printable route map here
Please leave a comment if you are planning to leave from Cobourg at 9:30 so that others can meet up with you and plan accordingly. See you all there!
