Sunday May 18th: Ride to Presqu’ile and back

2012 NHCC Ride to Presqu'ile

Previous NHCC Ride to Presqu’ile Park

This Sunday is the first of our Long-weekend Century Rides. You don’t, however, need to go the whole distance. Make it a 50k by turning around in Colborne. For 100k, we ride to the lighthouse at Presqu’ile Park then return home. Take a lunch-break at a restaurant in Brighton, or stay on the move by bringing some sustenance with you (aka portable snack foods) and lots of water.

This ride will also be open to members of the Ganaraska Freewheelers and the Cobourg Cycling Club who may ride free of charge as our invited guests (a waiver must be signed though—get your waiver here).

This is not about speed, it’s about going the distance. How long does it take to ride 100km? Between 4 and 5.5 hours, not including breaks. Level 3 travels together, level 4’s may break off into groups according to ability.

Time: 9:00am
Start Location: The parking lot behind the Dutch Oven
Skill level: Levels 3 and 4
Route map: Waterfront Trail (signed route—no route map necessary)

Leave a comment to let others know your plans regarding distance and lunch.

Thursday May 15th: Ride from Carlisle Park, Waterfront Trail westbound

Waterfront Trail The weatherman says cloudy most of the day, showers in the evening. That means a good chance we won’t get rained out! Since we’ll be riding east toward Presqu’ile on Sunday, tomorrow we will ride westbound along the Waterfront Trail instead, turning back again whenever you feel like it, enabling everyone to determine their own distance. Ride for an hour, or ride for three, the choice is yours. These out and back rides allow for total flexibility in distance.

Start time: 10am
Start location: The park on Carlisle St. between Ewing and Westwood
Route: Waterfront Trail westbound (no route map necessary)
Skill Level: Levels 3 and 4
Ride Leader: Anita Macklin

As usual, We will naturally break off into different speeds, with the exception of Level 3 staying together as a group.

Wednesday Port Hope Ride: May 14th

Reminder: Cycle-Safe Clinic Tuesday Night, May 13th

Rain or shine, the Cycle-Safe clinic will happen. The venue is indoors and there’s plenty of space. Bring your bicycles—we’ll be doing some bike handling skills training. This one-night event is going to be jam packed full of all the essential safety and group riding skills that we can cram into one evening. Think of it as the “light” version of the 5-week course that starts next week. And it’s free!

Tuesday Night, 6:30 at Cycle Transitions. See you all there!

Wednesday, May 14: Level 2, 20km Ride
