Thursday. May 28th, Levels 3 and 4

This week Thursday’s ride offers two options. Both start at Donegan Park in Cobourg and after a warm up, head for some hills, but when we’re at the Tim Hortons in Colborne, those wishing to do the 54km loop turn towards the lake and head back along the Waterfront Trail. Riders out for the 80km ride will continue on to Brighton where there’s the oppportunity for a lunch stop at Lola’s, on the main street in Brighton. The ride then heads back home along the Waterfront Trail.

Please indicate which distance you’re thinking of doing and whether you want to make the stop at Lola’s so others can figure out who they might be able to ride with.

Date: Thursday, May 28th
Start Location: Donegan Park, D’Arcy Street, Cobourg
Time: 10:00am

Don’t let it scare you—that’s what those smaller chain rings are for!  The scenery outside of town is worth it.

Start Location: Arena on Furnace Street
Ride Difficulty: Level 2
Sunset: 8:46 (Lights required on bikes at 8:16pm)

A Special Invitation

Fellow NHCCers,
We (Randy and Anita) are getting married on Friday June 5th and are having a casual celebration of our marriage from 7:00-10:00pm that same evening at Randys house. Just drop-in anytime! Our intention was to hand-deliver invitations to all our friends within the NHCC but are running out of time so here we go, we are posting this invitation right on our Club website! As NHCC-ers you are hereby invited to attend our evening celebration!

No gifts, please. Seriously! We have everything we need and more. However, please bring a lawn chair and your favourite beverage. Home brewed beer will be available as long as quantities last. There will be a variety of refreshments and desserts to nibble on. If however, one does feel incredibly compelled to bring some tasty ready-to-serve party foods, well…. ok, but it’s not necessary 🙂 (note that our kitchen will not be available for food preparation, and we will be outdoors)

If anyone feels so inclined and would also like to see the ceremony earlier in the day, it’s taking place at Victoria Hall at 4:00pm in the Old Bailey. All are welcome.

Time: anytime from 7:00-10:00
Location: Randys home
IMPORTANT: RSVP please: Just drop us a quick email to let us know you are coming so we can be sure to plan adequately. We’ll also supply you the address. anita@anitamacklin.com or randyalbon@gmail.com

Monday, May 25th, Level 1 ride

This week’s ride will be two loops. We’ll set off and do one loop then return to the meeting spot, then anyone who wants to ride more can do the second loop as well.

Date: Monday, May 25th

Time: 6:30 pm

Meeting Location: the parking lot behind the Dutch Oven

Ride Leader: Maria Siemiaszko

Sunday May 24: Level 3 & 4 Ride to Bewdley

On Sunday we plan to ride to Bewdley and back. Choose from either 44k or 59k distance options. The 44k doesn’t go right into Bewdley however, so there’s no opportunity to re-load on drinks or snacks. If you ride to Bewdley, there’s always Rhinos for lunch if you feel so inclined. Let others know by leaving a comment if you plan to go for lunch.

A little reminder about Level 3 and Level 4 rides:
Level 3: The group generally rides at a slower pace, and the expectation is that everyone rides together but without a ride leader. All should carry a route map and be equipped to repair a flat if necessary.
Level 4: A quicker pace, and although the expectation isn’t that everyone must remain together in a group, it sure is nice to ride together. No ride leader and everyone must have a map.

Start time: 10am
Start location: The arena parking lot on Furnace St., Cobourg
Route map (44k) Level 3: 44k Printable route map here, or view it on Ride with GPS
Route map (59k) Level 4: 59k Printable route map here, or view it on Ride with GPS

Start time: 9:00am
Start location: Donegan Park parking lot

Difficulty: Level 2

NHCC Summer Cycling Tours, 2015

For the first time ever, the NHCC is offering the opportunity for cycle touring within our club. These tours are intended for both the experienced and those who have never tried it but want to give touring a go. ‎We recognize that some may own a bike but none of the other equipment for touring, such as a specialized touring bike, racks, panniers, tents, and other camping equipment. If this describes you and you want to see if touring is for you, this is your opportunity to try a tour without making an investment in new gear. For the first two tours, we will offer:

  • SAG (support and gear) vehicle to carry gear you can’t carry on your bike
  • fluids and snacks to riders
  • tools for minor repairs
  • transportation for a rider and their bike if they have a mechanical issue that can’t be fixed at the side of the road
  • or give a lift to anyone who needs a rest

Tours are a go rain or shine. If you have any questions about any of these tours, please contact us at: nhcycling2010@gmail.com

Northumberland Tour: July 3,4,5th

(total distance: 150km)

This three day tour stays within Northumberland County. It involves daily distances of up to 64.5km with hilly terrain. After all, it is Northumberland County and we’re known for hills! Both overnight stops are situated in the country so there is ample room for camping. There is also limited availability of extra beds, couches, and indoor floor space to sleep on for those who reserve in advance. Showers are available at both locations. BYOB (it can travel in the SAG wagon).

Itinerary:
Friday, July 3rd: Start from Randy’s in Cobourg at 2:00. Ride to Maria’s (48km). Dinner, munchies for the campfire are included. Breakfast will be a short ride away in Warkworth and at riders’ own expense.

Saturday‎, July 4th: After breakfast, Cycle to Ruth and Peter’s west of Perrytown (64.5km). Lunch stop is the choice of each rider and at their expense. Dinner and breakfast Sunday morning provided.

Sunday, July 5th: After breakfast a short-ish ride back to where we started in Cobourg!

Cost: $60 to $70 per person (depending on number of participants. Exact cost will be finalized and announced upon the registration deadline.) Includes dinner Friday & Saturday evenings, breakfast Sunday morning, munchies in the evenings, water, other fluids, and snacks along the way.

Pre-registration is required by Friday, May 29th (no payment required yet). To pre-register please email us at nhcycling2010@gmail.com

Payment Due Date: Friday, June 12th (non refundable)

Presqu’ile Tour‎: August 8 & 9th

(total distance: 100 km)

This is an easy tour, well-suited for those who prefer shorter, flatter routes or just looking for a fun outing. This tour follows the Waterfront Trail eastbound to Presqu’ile Provincial Park. For those equipped for cammping we’ll stay at the park. Alternatively, the Presqu’ile Beach Motel is 11km away in Brighton and is a cycle friendly business.

We are hoping for a campground bonfire‎. Motel guests could either opt to ride to Presqu’ile for a visit, or the SAG vehicle may be able to transport them.

Water, fluids, and snacks will be carried by the SAG vehicle. Dinner on Saturday could either be in a Brighton restaurant or pizza can be delivered to the park by the SAG vehicle. ‎ Breakfast in Brighton Sunday morning before the ride home.

Detailed Itinerary and Costs are in development and will be announced.

Motel Accommodations:(optional) Participants wishing motel accommodations are responsible for making their own reservation. Reservations for Brighton Beach Motel: 1 877 769 6153 (toll free) or 1 613 475 1010‎. Post a comment once you have made a reservation so we know you’re coming with us.

Campsites can accommodate up to 4 tents and some motel rooms up to 4 people. It you want to share accommodations, make a comment on this post to find others who want to share. We recommend booking ASAP to avoid disappointment.

Ottawa Tour (proposed), August 21-30th

Details are still in development, but we are planning a possible tour riding to Ottawa and back (possibly taking the train back at least part of the way.) Save the dates if you are interested in our most ambitious tour this summer and watch for details.
