Tuesday July 23: Evening Ride in Port Hope 6:30

The is the best weather ever for cycling. Not too hot, not too cold and beautiful sunsets. If you haven’t done the Port Hope ride before why not give it a try? Evening riding has a different feel than morning and it’s nice way to end your day.

Start time: 6:30pm
Start location: Port Hope Town Hall parking lot
Lights required at: 8:15pm
Ride Leader: George Hussey

If you think you want to ride but aren’t sure about the pace etc. feel free to use the comments section to let others know you are coming and the ride leader can plan accordingly.

Monday July 22: Level 1 Ride, 7:00

This ride promises to be a little less hot and humid, making for some ideal riding conditions. The days are actually getting shorter, so if you haven’t already equipped your bike with lights on the front and the back it’s a good time to start thinking about it. Meet in the parking lot of the Dutch Oven, where Pamela Tate will lead the riders out for a tour around town.

Start time: 7:00pm
Start location: The parking lot behind the Dutch Oven
Sunset: 8:46pm (lights required at 8:16pm)
Ride Leader: Pamela Tate

Sunday July 21: Ride at 9am (40, 48 or 54km)

Some folks did this route on Thursday, and if you want to make it a little different for Sunday you could choose to do it in the opposite direction. There are options on this route to make it a little shorter and easier.

Level 3 (shorter and easier): Once in Port Hope, just take Hwy. 2 all the way back to Cobourg avoiding Bickle Hill. Doing so will make the route about 40km

Start time: 9:00am
Start location: The Mill parking lot in Cobourg
Ride leader, Level 4: Anita Macklin
Ride leader, Level 3: Being determined
Route map (54 or 48km): Ganaraska Freewheelers printable route map here

Century Rides:
Just a small reminder too, that we have 100k rides planned for each long weekend in the summer. The last long weekend, Labour Day weekend, we plan on both 100k and 160k. That ride is tentatively set for Sunday, September 1st. Start getting your distance in now!

Thursday EVENING ride, July 18th: 48km

The evening ride has just one distance option (48km) and includes Bickle Hill making it a Level 4 ride for sure. You’ll need lights on your bikes after 8:20pm (Sunset is at 8:50). We’ll have to leave at 6:00 pm in order to get the whole ride in by 8:30.

Start time: 6:00pm
Start location: The Mill parking lot in Cobourg
Route map: (Ganaraska Freewheelers route, no link to GPS): Printable route map here
Difficulty Level: Level 4

We don’t have a ride leader for the evening ride, so Level 4 riders should expect to be independent, carry a map, and be equipped with tire-changing equipment etc. Please use the comment section to let others know you will be riding so that you can anticipate others to ride with. It’s always nice to know you’ll have company!

Thursday Morning Ride, July 18: “Le Tour de Port Hope” 54 or 48km

Since Ball between Cornish Hollow and Ferguson is under construction, we’ve chosen a route that avoids that road. The morning option has two options to choose from, starting from The Mill in Cobourg. This route heads over to Port Hope on the Fifth Line. After a tour of the Port Hope downtown and waterfront, the 54 km ride returns to The Mill via the infamous Bickle Hill (an obstacle that the 48 km ride avoids!).

Start time: 9:00am
Start location: The Mill parking lot in Cobourg
Route map: (Ganaraska Freewheelers route, no link to GPS): Printable route map here

Since we haven’t determined ride leaders for this ride, it’s important that everyone print out their own map and have it with you. We’ll likely break off into more than one group, depending on how many riders are there and what pace people prefer.

Due to a severe thunderstorm watch we will cancel tonights ride. Sorry folks.

Wednesday July 17: Level 2 ride 7:00pm

CANCELLED DUE TO SEVERE WEATHER WATCH
It’s hot and humid so we’ll take it easy. We’ll leave from the park on Carlisle and weave through town before heading out toward Archers Rd. and down to Lakeshore. Easy, flat riding, no crazy hills. Just what we need in this heat.

Start time: 7:00pm
Start location: The park on Carlisle St. (between Ewing and Westwood)
Route map: Not needed
Ride leader: Anita Macklin

Bring a couple of bucks with you in case we decide to stop at a place that offers cold drinks or popsicles.

Tuesday July 16: Ride from Port Hope

It’s the usual ride from Port Hope. The distance and pace will be determined by those participating, but all will be accommodated. We’ll start at Gilmers, which means one less hill to climb.

Start time: 6:30pm
Start location: Parking lot of Gilmers Home Hardware
Ride Leader: George Hussey

*If you are riding over from Cobourg, meet at Canadian Tire at 6:00. Use the comments to let others know you are riding over from Cobourg.

Monday July 15th: Evening Ride and Ice Cream (7:00pm)

It’s going to be HOT and sunny……isn’t it great! 32°C. We’ll start at the parking lot of the park on Carlisle St. and do a cruise around town, stopping for a little ice cream (or something cold and refreshing) at that little ice-cream parlour downtown by the pier. Optional, of course, but always yummy. Also, if you are interested in a groovy NHCC T-shirt, they’ll be on hand too at the beginning of the ride. $15 and you’ll look like like you’re part of a Bike Club!

A little water bottle tip: half fill the water bottle and lay it down horizontally in the freezer, then fill the remainder with water just before the ride and you’ll have cold water all the way.

Start time: 7:00pm
Start location: The park on Carlisle, between Ewing and Westwood

Sunset: 8:52 (lights required at 8:22)

There are three options to choose from and if you wish to stop in Grafton for a small lunch break, be sure to throw a sandwich (or something) in your back pocket. It’s important that everyone print out a map and bring it with you.  (For this ride, we’ll depart at 10:00 with the others, rather than 9am)
