Sunday Oct. 6: No Sunday ride!

The weather forecast is not promising at all, so we are going to take a leap and say there won’t be a Sunday morning ride. Hopefully next Sunday! Sleep in, read the morning paper and enjoy the day!

Thursday October 3: Ride from Donegan Park 10am

It looks as though there’s another decent day of cycling in store before the big rains start. We’ll make it simple! Meet at Donegan Park and head out eastbound along the Waterfront Trail till you feel like you’ve had enough and then turn around and return. It’s nice and flat-ish, which means easy! Let others know you are riding so that people know they won’t be riding alone.

Start time: 10am
Start location: Donegan Park
Route map: not necessary
Ride leader: None for today. Self-directed.  🙂

Monday Sept. 30th: Easy Ride for all Levels

It’s one of those great, sunny fabulous fall evenings. So how about you hop on your bike and come out for the Easy Ride? It’s all about being social, brushing up on your safety skills and enjoying the last of the evening rides with other NHCCers.

Start time: 6:00pm
Start location: The park on Carlisle between Westwood and Ewing
Ride Leader: Anita Macklin

Please use the comment feature to respond and let us know you are coming. There are indeed folks who drive from many kilometres away and would like to know if indeed there will be others to ride with once here.  🙂

Sunday September 29th: Ride from Welcome at 10am

This Sunday we’ll try starting some place different, which will allow us to take in some different scenery. We’ll meet in the parking lot of George Hamilton School in Welcome and head up into the countryside. The route is still being developed, so that will be posted later today. One thing is for sure….it won’t be a flat route! In the meantime, let’s keep our fingers crossed that this great weather stays with us.

Start time: 10am
Start location: George Hamilton School parking lot in Welcome
Route map: 51k to Millbrook and back printable route map or link to Ride with GPS
Ride leader: Randy Albon

It’s a great time of year to see some changing colours!

Bicycle Action Committee (BAC) Meeting on Tues. Oct.1st

The Bicycle Action Committee (BAC) will meet on October 1st and are inviting those interested in becoming involved to attend. The BAC advocates for cycling infrastructure in Cobourg, and develops new cycling initiatives. Just a few of the achievements of the BAC have included:

  • Advocating for bicycle lanes and add Share the Road signage
  • Creation of the fabulous Cycle Transitions
  • Development of the CanBike program in our community
  • Assisted in the development of the county’s Master Cycling Plan
  • Creation of Cobourg’s Bike Week
  • Organization of the annual Bike for the Planet event

And best of all, for those who don’t know it—the concept and initial development of our very own Northumberland Hills Cycling Club originated at the BAC and many of our club members are also BAC members.

So here’s the scoop:

Time: 7:00pm
Meeting location: Cycle Transitions
BAC Chair: Bruce Bellaire
Membership information: The BAC is a sub-committee of Sustainable Cobourg, so membership to Sustainable Cobourg would be required. Membership cost is $20 annually.

Thursday Sept. 26: Ride from Donegan Park at 10am

This route’s a Ganaraska Freewheelers route, so we know it’s always a good one! Despite the route map saying it starts at the Marina, the official start point will be at Donegan Park. Two distances to choose from. Medium or short! (well okay, we use the term “short” loosely since it’s actually 61k). Be sure to have a route map with you since we don’t have ride leaders for every ride at this time of the year.

Start time: 10am
Start Location: Donegan Park
Route map: Rice Lake Ramble Medium (74k) or Rice Lake Ramble Short (61k)

Please comment below what route you plan to ride so others can plan to keep you company!

Monday Sept. 23: Evening ride at 6:00

Yep, it’s earlier yet again. We’ll meet at 6:00 and take a nice easy ride around town for one hour. It’s probably going to be chilly, so don’t forget those gloves and a few layers. This is a ride that’s primarily geared for Level 1, but is also suitable for riders of all ability because we focus heavily on positioning in traffic, safety and group riding dynamics.

Start time: 6:00pm
Start location: The park on Carlisle between Westwood and Ewing
Ride leader: Anita Macklin

Sunday Sept. 22: Waterfront trail West ride at 10am

The rain will stop, and then it’s going to be clear but cool tomorrow (13°C) This time we are heading out west toward Port Hope then along the waterfront trail till you feel like turning around and coming back. That way, you can determine whatever distance you wish to do. Use the commenting section below to let others know you are riding and how far you might want to go.

Start time: 10:00am
Start location: The Park on Carlisle between Westwood and Ewing.
Route Map: Not necessary, we follow the Waterfront Trail.

This time of the year we don’t always have ride leaders, so plan to pair up with someone and be sure to have spare tires, pump etc. with you.

Thursday Sept. 19: Ride to Harwood and Back (50k)

We will start this ride from the parking lot at The Mill (despite the fact the map shows it starting at Precious Corners). This will add 8km to the total distance for a total of 50k. Yeah yeah, of course the weather man says there’s a 30% chance of rain…but it also means a 70% likelihood that it won’t, and those are pretty good odds, don’t you think?

Start Time: 10:00am sharp
Start Location: The Mill Parking lot
Route Map: Printable Route map with elevation chart or, if you are equipped with a GPS View the link on Ride with GPS

No ride leader has been designated for this ride. If you plan to ride, be sure to bring a route map with you and use the comment feature here to let others know you’ll be there.

Tuesday Sept. 17 Evening Ride in Port Hope: 6:00pm

The days are shorter and evening rides are definitely cooler which might explain the frozen fingers on the Monday evening ride. :0 Moral of the story: dress warmly! Evening rides are going to start at 6:00 now. Make sure you have lights on your bikes both front and back. And wear layers! (Or have a hot tub on standby)

Start time: 6:00pm
Start location: Port Hope Town Hall
Ride leader: Pam Tate
